Here is mainly to record how to use the Power Monitor in Dialog's official SmartSnippets Toolbox to measure the current of BLE devices during the development process.
Preparation tools:

Four, operation steps

1. Wiring:

Here you need to connect the jumper caps of J1, J10 and J11, all other jumper caps are removed, the BLE device wiring is shown in Figure 3, the red is the positive power supply, and the black wire is the negative power supply.

Open SmartSnippet Toolbox and create a new project according to the steps in Figure 4 below. The 580 and 585 methods are the same. Note that you must select the chip type corresponding to BLE, and also check whether the serial port is recognized.

3. Current calibration

After the software is opened, click Power Monitor to enter the current test interface. Before performing the current test, you need to calibrate the motherboard DEVKT; as shown in Figure 5 below

where the Avg Current is the motherboard current, and we need to configure it Cancel this part of the current, set as shown in Figure 6: Click Config, configure the voltage value and current offset value, note that it needs to be added as a negative number.

4. Current test

 按住DEVKT板上的SW3按键,然后依次点击Initalize、Start,如下图8:

Click Stop when you need to stop, so you can see the current change of the device, you can analyze the current consumption, active period, and average current Avg Current based on the waveform.

The above method of testing the current of the external BLE device, if you need to test the current loss of the official daughter board, you need to connect to the development board as shown in Figure 9 below. The other operations are the same.

J10 in Figure 9 does not need to be connected. You can connect it according to Figure 10 below for programming and current testing, but you must cut off the power after programming, and you don’t need it when testing current Press SW3 again.
