View monitor support information
Depending on your Mac model, you can connect one or more external displays. To find out how many external monitors your Mac supports, check its technical specifications:
1. Choose Apple menu> "About This Mac".
2. Tap the "Support" tab.
3. Click "Technical Specifications".
4. On the web page that appears, the number of monitors supported by your Mac is displayed under "Video Support" or "Graphics Processor".
If you are using a Mac with an Apple chip , you can use one of the Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports to connect a single external monitor to your Mac. Connect the monitor

Change display options

Use extended desktop mode
1. Choose Apple menu> "System Preferences."
2. Then click "Display".
3. Click the "Arrange" tab and make sure that the "Mirror Display" checkbox is unchecked.
4. Arrange your monitor to keep it consistent with the layout on your desk. To change the position of the monitor, drag it to the desired position. When moving, a red border will appear around the monitor.
5. To set another monitor as the primary monitor, drag the menu bar to the other monitor. The main display is where the desktop icons and App windows appear first.
Mirror display
1. Make sure your external monitor is turned on and connected to your Mac.
2. Choose Apple menu> "System Preferences", click "Display", and then click the "Arrangement" tab.
3. Make sure the "Mirror display" checkbox is selected.
Use AirPlay
With Apple TV, you can use your TV as a standalone monitor for your Mac.
