Ubuntu18.0.4.4 virtual machine installation

The 2020-04-20 update has been re-improved. Last time, I took a screenshot while installing. After the installation was completed, I posted the screenshot and it was over. This version updates the text content. This update is marked with purple font.

Environment: VMware15Pro, Ubuntu18.0.4.4 Desktop

For VMware15 Pro, you can find download resources by yourself, which is more complicated. The version 12 I used before is not compatible with this version of Ubuntu, and it cannot be booted after installation, so I use 15 instead.

(This download may be a bit slow, about 2G size, it will be faster to download with a mirror~)

step:

1. Choose Custom (Advanced).

It is recommended to select the "Custom (advanced)" option here. Some configurations are involved later, which can be adjusted according to your own computer.

The first picture looks like 12 and the second picture looks like 15.

2. Click Next, select hardware compatibility, here select Workstation 15.x.

There is generally no need to change it, just default to the next step.

2

3. Here, select " Install the operating system later ".

I remember that the default may be this option, or it may be the reason for the previous installation, just pay attention when installing it yourself.

4. After the next step, select "Guest Operating System" and "Version".

Here, choose "Linux(L)" and "Ubuntu 64 bit". Each version of VMware may be different. The following is the difference between version 12 (Figure 1) and 15 (Figure 2).

4

5. Select the name and location of the virtual machine.

6. Select the number of processors. [Choose according to your own computer configuration, generally the default is OK]

7. Select the memory.

[What I understand here is the running memory~] If your computer's memory is 8 G, you can choose 1~4, but if you choose 4 or above, there may be some lag. If my memory is 24 G, choose After 6 G, this is the case where only one is installed. If you build a Hadoop cluster or something, the master node can be larger and the child nodes smaller.

8. Here, select " Use Network Address Translation (NAT) ".

9. The default is OK, LSI and SCSI.

9

10. Select " Create a new virtual disk ".

Here are usually newly created, choose the first one, if there is a previous or other situation, choose by yourself.

11. Select the disk capacity.

What needs to be understood here is that if there is no follow-up need later, generally 20G is enough, but if it is used for a long time, it is recommended to be larger, because it is more troublesome to expand the disk capacity after it is full. The "allocate all disk space immediately" option here can be selected or not, it is nothing more than whether it will be a little bit stuck when used. Whether the following disk should be stored as a single file, this can be selected if the hard disk is NTFS, if not, select the following to split into multiple files, it will not have a big impact~.

12. Just the next step.

13. Creation process.

PS: This is using the 12 version of the graphics, and 11 chooses to "allocate all disk space immediately". If there is no choice, you can directly see that the one on the left is newly created.

14. Select the ISO image file.

Find the "Edit Virtual Machine" -> CD/DVD(SATA) option.

15. Turn on the virtual machine and select Install Ubuntu.

After selecting the image in the previous step, click "Click this virtual machine".

16. Choose Chinese and Shanghai.

I forgot to take the second picture here, it's easier to get started. I won't add it.

17, pay attention here~

18、选择 “Erase disk and install Ubuntu”。

19. After that, there is nothing difficult, just continue.

20. Note: This may be after installing the operating system, modify the physical driver here to "automatic detection".

If there is no opening, there is no need to change it, it was not needed before. But I personally feel it is needed.
