a) Length of the paper (content): 12 to 15 pages of content.
b) Use Calibri or Times New Roman font 12, spacing 1.5. Microsoft Word is acceptable. Use
APA style or Chicago style for references.
c) Appendix does not have a limit in the number of pages; however, you should only add
relevant information that enhances the document.
d) The research techniques to use in the paper is one from the topics covered in class. Use
of R is required, and some Excel is acceptable for preliminary analysis. Using other
software may be allowed with permission, but some use of R is expected.
e) One-page document with the title, description of your topic, dataset to be used, and the
statistical technique that you are planning to use is due on April 13th at midnight. Early
deliveries are encouraged. Submission through eLearning. This is a plan for your project,
with some flexibility to change. For instance, changing the technique or the name of
your paper is acceptable. However, changing your topic and dataset to something
completely different is not an allowed change unless discussed with your professor.
f) One-page summary of your paper, with final findings and results (Executive summary) is
due on April 30th midnight. Submission through eLearning. This summary will be posted
on eLearning the next day for the rest of the class to read and come prepare with
questions on May 2nd
.
Note: For the best-prepared student on the day of presentations on other students’
papers, there will be a 10-point bonus on the grade of their paper. Thus instead of a
grade scale of 100, that student could earn a grade of 110 in the paper. Preparation will
consist on asking questions, identifying strengths and weaknesses on the techniques
used on the papers, and make suggestions about improvements.

LIS acquires datasets with income, wealth, employment, and demographic data from
many high- and middle-income countries, harmonizes them to enable cross-national
comparisons, and makes them publicly available in two databases, the Luxembourg
Income Study Database (LIS) and the Luxembourg Wealth Study Database (LWS).
Other data sources may be considered. Discuss with your professor for approval.
h) The final paper is due on May 2nd. A printout should be given to your professor before
the class starts, and the file is due on eLearning by 6 pm. Turnitin services will be used to
identify correct references and problems with plagiarism. Using a paper prepared for
another class constitutes plagiarism, even if is your own.
