Reset Linux Root Password

           

 RHCE 4

  1. Insert the bootable CD/ISO and boot from boot-image

 

  1. Enter to select the boot image

  1. Select second line (the line starting with the word kernel)

  1. Press the e key to edit kernel entry so that you can append single user mode

  1. Append the letter S (or word Single) to the end of the (kernel) line

  1. Press ENTER key

 

  1. Now press the b key to boot the Linux kernel into single user mode

 

  1. At prompt type passwd command to reset password

 

  1. Reboot the server to normal mode

 

 

Red Hat Enterprise Linux5 Update 3

1, Boot from hard disk

 

2, press ‘e’ and select “kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18…..”

 

3, press ‘e’ to edit selected command

 

4, type ‘space’ , then input single

 

5, type ‘Enter’ to save your configuration

 

6, press ‘b’ to boot

 

7, Type ‘passwd root’ to change the password of root.

 

8, type ‘reboot’ to reboot the OS from single mode to normal mode.
