Q1:Please introduce yourself and your company first.
A1:Hello everyone, I’m Ivan Mao, the co-founder and CTO of IPFSUnion. Today,I am glad to be invited to share the project, Filecoin, with my friends at Hotbit.
Our company is an ecological integrated service provider, located in Shanghai, China. Core team members from Microsoft, AMD, Alibaba, Tencent, SAP, Huawei, SNDA, NVIDA and other well-known enterprises. We have a mature and complete industrial supply chain, with many branches and partners at home and abroad. Our business scope covering mining machine, mining pool, IT room operation and maintenance, supply chain, application ecology and other fields.
During the reset of Filecoin testnet phase2, our node “t011101” began to break through after being connected to the test network for a period of time. At 3:45 p.m(three point four five pm ) on the same day, the power ranked to the second.
Q2:Is there any issues in the testnet phase2?
A2:The main purpose of the testing is to find and fix bugs, and do some large-scale cluster testing of our mining program.
So far, we have found six serious bugs and a few minor ones which have reported to the Filecoin core team .We will continue to debug the official program and submit bugs, try our best to contribute to the testnet phase2.
Q3:After the test network reset, is the competition among miners still fierce?
A3:Yeah. After the reset, the top miners of each team are fighting a head-on battle over power rankings. As some unknown miner comes out, another miner with a high ranking fades out quietly. When we study the algorithm and have no desire to compete, various teams compete against each other, and each team gains and loses, even so, our node is still ranked among the top six, which shows our strength. So far, more than 50(fifty) miners have reached the storage power of 10T(ten terabyte) indicating the popularity of Filecoin.
Q4:What is everyone concerned about after testnet reset?
A4:Filecoin test network was reset on June 19 as planned, and many teams started testing.
The test network after the reset has fewer new problems and the overall operation is stable. In addition to the hardware facilities, people pay high attention to the power ranking, power growth rate, block reward, block stability, miners’ activity and other issues which are important factors for the scalability and safety of the reaction network, as well as important indicators to reflect the ability of a team.
Q5:In order to achieve good results
in Filecoin mining competition,
what are the main aspects? Could you elaborate on that?
A5:Stable operation and maintenance of network.
The mining mechanism of Filecoin is particularly complex, which is much more complex than BTC mining. Therefore, in the mining process of Filecoin, stability is the most important thing to pay attention to. Without a strong technical team to do code optimization, there will be a variety of problems. Therefore, at present, the top few big miners on the list of computing power have their own special technical operation and maintenance team, so as to ensure the stability of mining.
- Quality power growth.
If the speed of sector sealing is faster than others, the power increase is faster than others. At present, everyone has realized that data storage is very important to the Filecoin mining. But if you want to be more efficient, you should increase sector sealing speed by optimize the algorithm.
3.The optimization of block mining.
Through certain network optimization, the number of isolated blocks can be reduced as much as possible. At present, in the test network, the large miners are easy to mine block, and the isolated block rate is low, while the isolated block rate of small miners is higher. But as more and more miners join, the situation will gradually improve.
Q6:far,from the Filscout.io browser, the power rankings are pretty much stable,because testing web code is pretty much okay?
A6:The large miners used some bugs
to keep their power (submitwindowedPost is not submitted and not be punished) . As a result, the top 10 miners is very stable.
Q7:Is the current Filecoin network running stably?
Can the main network be launched on time from July to August?
A7:Yeah. If nothing else, The Main network phase will launch on MID LATE August according the latest plan of the core team.
Q8:After the reset of the testnet phase2,
we still see that many teams focus on the power ranking, mining efficiency and sealing speed. Why? Are these all decisive factors?
A8:The power rankings do have some value. It is clear that the top 10 miners have some technical competence, but that is not the only indicator. When the customer buys the mining machine, the cost performance also needs the key consideration.
The mining of Filecoin is relatively complex, and there are two indicators that need to be paid attention to:
First, the ability to convert storage space into quality power. Here we mainly look at the sealing speed.
Second,the ability to convert quality power into the gain of FIL is mainly seen in mining optimization (mining efficiency), operational and so on.
Power rankings are based on sealing speed and the count of machines, and there’s a lot of opacity that no team will disclose their detailed hardware configuration. After the main network launch, I suppose that the customer metrics will be the ROI.
Q9:With the main network of Filecoin is going to launch, the popularity of the project continues to rise. At present, there are many questions about the privacy and user interaction of Filecoin system. What do you think of it?
A9:The privacy of the so-called Filecoin system mainly means that when users store files in the system, if the user does not encrypt the files, the miners can see the contents of the files.
This is certainly something Filecoin system has not considered, but I don’t think it’s a defect of the system, it’s the choice of the Filecoin system when considering this point.
Any solution or application is not perfect, it can not and will not solve all the problems, it will only focus on solving the fundamental problems. The same is true for the Filecoin project, which aims to solve the problems existing in file centralized storage, rather than the problem of file privacy and anonymity.
The problem of anonymity and privacy of files can be completely solved by users through other solutions (such as encrypting files themselves), while the problem of centralized storage can only be solved by decentralized storage (such as Filecoin), which cannot be solved by existing solutions.
Q10:The official team of filecoin has set up a security research group. We know that IPFSUnion is involved in it. Does IPFSUnion Research and submit any questions to the test network? And what are your technical advantages?
A10:Of course yes, we submit maximum questions. We have already submited six issues(about smart contracts issues and Filecoin PoSt issues) to the core team.
There are several advantages of IPFSUnion.
In terms of hardware,the price of hardware is relatively transparent, and our performance price ratio is high
In terms of software,our R & D team has done a lot of optimization work, including large-scale task scheduling, SDR algorithm optimization, block produce optimization and so on.
In terms of operations, our operation and maintenance system is built according to the operation and maintenance standards of large Internet companies. The high availability operation and maintenance guarantee system ensures the high income of FIL currency in the future.
Q11:What is the expected pay back on investment of IPFS mininig machines now?
A11:According to Filecoin’s economic model, Filecoin releases about 420,000 FIL one day in its first year according the white paper(the detail economic models is being decided). If there are 100,000 working miners on the network when it launch, a miner can earn an average of 4.2 FIL per day. In addition, due to the small amount of FIL in the early stage while the demand for FIL is very large, so that the supply exceeds the demand. In this stage, the mining yield rate will be very high.
At present, there are four normal investment ways for blockchain projects.
First, investment in blockchain projects and equity investments requires certain funds and resources;
The second is through mining;
The third is through the secondary market.
However, in the current Filecoin project, tokens are obtained through IPFS mining. Short-term prices are not easy to guess. There were few FIL in circulation in the early days and the price could rise very high. In the short term, the phenomenon of on-line is not ruled out. But due to the value attribute of Filecoin, I am very optimistic about its medium and long term prospects and will definitely break through the “peak” generated in the short term.
Q12:The incentive plan for the filecoin test network has been released.
How about the preparation of the 4 million filecoin incentive plan, what are the technical preparations, and whether there are incentive plans in other regions?
A12:As soon as the official news of filecoin comes out, it seems that the miners who are eager to see through the bear market can see a glimmer of dawn before dawn. However, if you carefully read the 4 million filecoin incentive plan released by official, you will find that:
The top 100 divide up the 1million FIL in global jackpot, and the global network storage capacity needs to reach a certain value of quality storage capacity to unlock the corresponding FIL;
The top 50 of each state can be divided into 500,000FIL of each state;
If the storage power of the jackpot in a unknown continent does not reach 1PB(1 petabyte), then domestic miners can only participate in the 500,000FIL in Asia.
IPFSUnion is actively preparing for the filecoin incentive plan. Recently, we have put on new machines, and have been doing simulation tests of various scenarios at the software level, so as to make final preparations for the large miners test competition and the launch of the main network (the incentive plan for the non Chinese area is still under evaluation).
Q13:There are a lot of IPFS fake mining machines on the market in 2018,
so will there still be some mining machines with low performance and high price. If you want to invest in mining machinery, how do you identify the reliability of a manufacturer’s mining machine?
A13:At this stage for ordinary investors, this is very difficult, because you can not use the price to measure the quality of the mining machines, which is ultimately related to the input-output ratio. One machine, for example, costs ten times more than another, but is 20 times more efficient.
When selecting a manufacturer or even mining machines, I think you should follow the following points:
First, you should see whether if the manufacturer itself has enough technical team for continuous development and operation, including official code research, hardware facility guarantee, and operation and maintenance, all of which are indispensable.
Second, the criterion to evaluate the quality of some mining machines should be whether the program provided by the other side is open and transparent enough.
Our team has been working on this project since the end of 2017, and since then,
we have done miner pools, block explorer, mine construction, and so on,all of which are open and transparent.

Q1:Hello, My Name is Ronny Boesing, VPLedger blockchain project.
How do you secure the algorithm to always be updated for maximum outcome of mining, as I understand Filecoin mining parameters have changed greatly since early testnet. Can we expect Starpool to be among the biggest miners globally provided this action is taken care of?
A1:
The algorithm of PoRep will be SDR, and the algorithm is Window SDR in the early testnet.
The sector sealing speed of SDR is much faster on AMD CPUs than Intel CPUs, most of our mining machines are AMD CPUs.
Starpool will be among the biggest miners globally in the 5PB big miner testing and in future.
Q2:Is the plan to use SDR for 6 months after mainnet launch,and then switch to NSE (or something else)?
A2:
SDR is confirmed for mainnet launch, and NSE is one of the best candidates for a proof upgrade, and teams are working on implementation. But there are other candidates too, which are promising as well. It may be that another algorithm ends up better than NSE – we don’t know yet. Proof upgrades will arrive after mainnet launch and will coexist.
Q3:Can a normal person (like me) own a master node? What are the rquirements?
A3:
Yes, if you have many machines and you have a technical team to deploy the mining program and operation the machines.
Q4:Why not implement Automatic matching between miners and users through an order book in the white paper? Is it due to TPS limitations?
A4:
The feature is still under implementing.
I think the TPS won’t very high at the beginning of the mainnet launch, and most of the data will be transferred to IDC offline.
Q5:Is the plan to use SDR for 6 months after mainnet launch, and then switch to NSE (or something else)?
A5:

I think so.
5PB big miner testing is part of the 4M incentive testnet.
Q7:What are the main factors for getting orders after Filecoin goes online? algorithm? hardware? Is there a difference between Intel and AMD?
A7:
Bandwidth and mining hardware are the main factors of getting orders.
The sealing speed of AMD CPUs is much faster then Intel CPUs, it about 4x faster according our testing.
Q8:Is the current Filecoin network running stably?
A8:
It basically stable, there are still some issues in current running network, such as sync issue, power slashed issue and so on.
Q9:What is the main reason for Filecoin to choose MainNet and not other blockchain Erc20 Bep2 Trc20 ?
A9:
Filecoin is an independent blockchain, has different smart contract with ETH and TRX.
Q10:How many developers are currently actively working on the code for Filecoin team?
A10:
As far as I know, it about 50 members of Filecoin team.
