Linux Foundation's joint Development Fund (JDF) in cooperation with AWS, Genesys and Salesforce to create an open source data model that standardizes the data across cloud application interoperability, was named Cloud Information Model (Cloud Information Model, the CIM ).
According to the Foundation's statement, "In order to accelerate the digital transition and to provide personalized services to customers through every channel, many companies use a variety of local and cloud applications, where each has its own data model, which forces developers to build , test and manage custom code that across different systems for mapping and data conversion is required. However, the process does not speed up digital conversion, but slows down innovation and lead to poor integration. "
Thus, CIM is designed to meet the challenges of cloud computing and create data models. The new models will open source data by providing data interoperability guidelines for the point of sale systems, digital marketing platform, contact center or CRM center to reduce the complexity of application integration across cloud data.
The foundation said that developers can use within a few days and extended CIM, instead of creating custom code, which can create a data lake, generate analysis, training machine learning models, and build a single view of the customer.
"The introduction of information cloud model will provide a neutral venue open source community," Linux Foundation executive director Jim Zemlin representation. "This allows anyone in the community can collaborate in central governance model and contribute it to participate fully in the development of standards for interoperability and data work paved the way for the community, while the rapid increase in the adoption community."
The current CIM-compatible applications including AWS Lake Formation, which can help customers to move, store, classify and clean data from different sources in order to establish a data lake; there are 360 Salesforce customers can access customer data across Salesforce applications immediately ; and Genesys Cloud and Genesys AI.
