Microsoft and Apple joined Hollywood Open Source Alliance

Following Netflix and Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft and Apple also became the School of Software Foundation (  Academy Software Foundation newest member, ASWF), and the two companies have joined as a senior member.

The Foundation was established in August 2018, led by the Linux Foundation and the American academy (Academy Award organizers), dedicated to promoting the use of open source software in Hollywood.

"Filmmakers everywhere are using Apple products," the executive director of Institute of Software Foundation David Morin said, "I'm glad Apple has become our new members and look forward to working with them to ensure that our open source project run well on Apple software platform . "

In addition to Premium, Microsoft also joined the Technical Advisory Committee and Foundation Board.

"At Microsoft, our mission is to make every person on Earth every organization can get more, and it is this mission to promote our commitment to open source," Microsoft's Azure storage, media and vice president Edge Tad Brockway said, "we are very pleased to be a member of the Institute of software Foundation, in cooperation with the industry and the open source community, the latest cloud technology into the Foundation and its projects."

Previously, we have reported, ASWF has nine open source projects. Among them, film visual effects tools  OpenVDB  and color management tools  OpenColorIO  more popular. The latter has also been involved in "Spider-Man: parallel universe," "Alice in Wonderland", "The Incredibles 2" production and "Toy Story 4" and other films.

In addition to this newly added Microsoft and Apple, as well as Netflix and AWS mentioned above, members of the School of Software Foundation also include Cisco, DreamWorks Animation, Google cloud, Sony Pictures, Walt Disney Studios, Red Hat, Warner brothers and visual effects associations.
