Credo launches industry's first 800G optical DSP chip with monolithic integrated CMOS VCSEL driver

New Credo DSP optimized for AOC and short-range ( SR ) optical modules , suitable for next-generation ultra-large-scale data center /AI applications

San Jose, California and Shenzhen, China, September 6 , 2023 - Credo Technology (Nasdaq: CRDO ) today released two new products: Dove 800D and Dove 410D PAM4 optical DSP chips with integrated VCSEL drivers . The two chips can accelerate customer product launches and are designed to address the growing bandwidth demands of ultra-large data centers, AI back-end clusters, and general computing networks. Dove 800D (8x100G) and Dove 410D (4x100G) use Credo's fourth-generation DSP technology. They are optimized, high-performance, compact products that can meet the increasingly stringent energy consumption requirements of super data centers. The Dove 800D and 410D DSPs are tailored for multi-mode ( MMF ) applications.

Michael Girvan Lampe, global vice president of sales and marketing at Credo , said: "Artificial intelligence and machine learning have promoted the expansion of hyperscale data centers, creating an increasing demand for optical connections. Most of these optical connections require the use of 400G and 800G + Mode short link SR4/SR8 module / Active Optical Cable ( AOC ) implementation. The integrated VCSEL- driven Dove 800D and 410D optical DSP can meet the needs of this rapidly developing market and help our customers simplify PCB design while reducing the overall module cost. cost."

Dove 800D is an ideal choice for the next generation of low-power, high-performance 2x400G/1x800G OSFP/QSFP-DD800 optical modules. Dove 410D is optimized for 2x200G or 1x400G QSFP112 optical modules. Both products have integrated VCSEL drivers. Each sending and receiving channel is configured with a dedicated PLL , which can realize multiple channel splitting modes. The optical side uses high-performance DSP technology combined with performance enhancement functions for photoelectric damage compensation, allowing the two products to achieve excellent performance while maintaining low power consumption.

Main functions and technical advantages of Dove 800D and Dove 410D

  • Both the host side (electrical) and the line side (optical) are single-channel 100G PAM4 signals.
  • Both the optical side and the electrical side use fourth-generation DSP technology, which provides industry-leading high sensitivity and low bit error rate ( BER ) performance, providing sufficient performance margin for component changes and mass production.
  • Line-side Rx supports performance enhancements tailored to cope with optical impairments in stressed MMF environments.
  • Integrating a 100G VCSEL driver that supports programmable laser current function can optimize module layout and reduce BOM cost.
  • High-performance transmitters equipped with multi-order FIR filters allow precise optimization of the module's electrical connectors and optical interfaces.
  • The host-side interface supports extended PCB coverage without the need to customize settings for each channel.
  • Independent phase-locked loops for each channel support flexible tap configurations including 2x400G , 4x200G and 8x100G .
  • It has a full set of test functions and loopback functions, making laboratory debugging and production testing easier and shortening customer product time to market.
  • Low power consumption improves rack utilization and reduces thermal cooling requirements.
