The author Ted apologizes: This blog should have been published a long time ago, but due to frequent travel in the past few months, I was not in good spirits. In addition, I subsequently participated in the Open Source Congress held by the Linux Foundation in Geneva, Switzerland on July 27. As well as COSCUP'23 in Taipei on 7/29-30, three articles will be released in a row (please pay attention to the other two reports).

On April 12, 2023, I set out for Singapore to attend  the 2023 FOSSASIA Summit . At this conference, I mainly represent SegmentFault to introduce Answer (a knowledge community open source software in the form of question and answer to Asian/global open source community partners, used to quickly build your product technology community, customer support community, user Community, etc.: https://answer.dev/), I introduced the open source rainforest community by the way, and I also interacted with the audience on behalf of the open source community in the exhibition area.

Since 2009, Hong Phuc Dang (the beautiful woman in red giving a speech in the picture below, a Vietnamese-Chinese former OSI vice president who can speak Chinese, and the founder of FOSSASIA) has held the FOSSASIA Summit for 14 consecutive years, and it has become more and more successful. The author hereby strongly recommends the attention and participation of all domestic readers.

Apache Openmeetings Contributor Liu Wentao's thoughts on participating in FOSSAsia Summit 2023...

As a former official member of the Open Source Society, now an independent open source person, a community member and contributor to the Apache Openmeetings project, I would like to thank the Open Source Society partners for this opportunity to participate in lifelong learning research in Singapore on behalf of China's open source pioneers with many domestic open source pioneers. The Asian Open Source Summit was held. This meeting was an important meeting held by the open source community during the post-COVID-2019 period. The organization of the meeting was excellent, and our Chinese team also performed very well. The total number of sessions delivered ranked first among all 22 countries. three.

I received the official notification on Friday, March 24th, telling me that the topic I submitted was accepted. At that time, I was very happy, but also very nervous. After all, it had been a long time since I gave a speech at such a large conference, but since it was Passing the conference review also shows that peers recognize you, so you must prepare carefully and strive to give back to the community with excellent performance. But time is really tight. In addition to perfecting the lecture courseware and experiment configuration, passports and visas must also be applied.

After careful consideration, I replied an email to the conference organizing committee, communicated my situation with them, and stated that I would go all out to attend the conference on time. The organizing committee sent me an invitation letter on Saturday, March 25. After receiving the invitation letter, I immediately found a translation company to help with the translation and asked them to send it directly to the passport processing department of the Public Security Bureau on Monday morning. It's good to apply for a passport. On the morning of Monday, March 27, I went to the Municipal Public Security Bureau to apply for a passport. I learned that the normal passport processing time is 7 working days, plus there is the Tomb Sweeping Day holiday in between, which means that I will not be able to get the passport until April 6, and the visa will take another 3 days. -5 working days, that is, it will take until around April 11th - 13th to get the visa. I was a little confused at that time. If I didn't take action, I would probably miss the meeting. The agency responsible for the visa also said it was too late and asked me to consider postponing the travel date.

I won’t talk about the following things, including how to find a relationship to apply for an expedited passport, how to find an agency company to obtain the visa as quickly as possible, and finally got the visa on April 9. At that time, I was very excited, hehe. But at this juncture, the demo I need to demonstrate cannot run. I used VWware to set up a NAT network, which consists of 5 virtual machines, one of which is Microsoft Active Directory Server, and the other 4 are CentOS systems. I installed OpenLdap Server, OpenLdap Client, Linux client join AD, Apache Openmeetings, and there are 7 sets of optical passwords for the entire system. On the evening of April 9th, I worked all night to get the system up, and then I remembered that I hadn't booked a flight ticket or a hotel. I quickly booked air tickets and hotels on the morning of April 10. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to catch the same flight as Jiang Ning. We took off smoothly from Beijing Capital Airport on the afternoon of April 12th and arrived in Singapore safely at 10 o'clock that night. Jiang Ning called a taxi in advance and quickly rested after arriving at the hotel to prepare for the meeting.

On the morning of April 13th, after having breakfast at the hotel, I went out with Jiang Ning at about 8:30 and took a taxi with Grab. While waiting for the taxi in the hotel lobby, I found a familiar figure outside the door. Isn't it Ted? We hurried out of the hotel and called Ted. We met in a foreign country, so we were very affectionate. It turned out that he lived in the hotel next door to us, and he also called a taxi and was waiting for the car. We immediately decided to go green and carpool together. Ted skillfully operated his mobile phone and canceled his taxi order calmly and calmly. At this time, our taxi also came, and we all set off to the venue---Singapore Lifelong Learning Center.

We arrived at the venue at about nine o'clock. We first went to the sign-in area to collect our name tags, and then went to the main venue Lecture Theater. The venue was basically full of people, probably about 200 people. First, the organizer of the conference, Mr. Mario, gave an opening speech. Then the conference organizer Ms. Hong Phuc gave a welcome speech, and then came the keynotes speech, which included our Chinese friend Wang Jianmin from the openEuler community. Those who can give keynotes at such an important conference must be very good. of. During the break in the middle of the meeting, we rushed to the booth of Kaiyuanshe to distribute souvenirs, T-shirts, and promotional materials to other participants, and introduced Kaiyuanshe. On the left side of our booth is the Korean Ubuntu community, and on the right is the German OpenTec booth. In the morning, many people came to our booth to learn about Kaiyuan Society and its related projects. Our souvenirs and T-shirts were very popular. At noon, we had a buffet in the Event Hall exhibition hall. The exhibition hall is relatively large. There are two rows of dining tables arranged against the walls on both sides. There are local Singaporean delicacies and other Southeast Asian food. Participants from various countries have spent a morning Everyone was hungry at the event. Everyone queued up in an orderly manner to get plates, dishes, and drinks. While eating, they listened to the speech of TAKASU SAN, a formal member of Kaiyuan Society. The atmosphere was particularly lively and harmonious. In the afternoon, we each went to listen to the topic of our choice, and during the break in the middle, we also went back to the booth to handle related transactional work. The speeches of several of our team members were on the 2nd and 3rd day, probably because Kaiyuanshe submitted the speech topic later this time. After the meeting in the evening, I had the honor to have dinner with Mr. Ted. In a small shop opposite the hotel, I tasted the most authentic Singaporean snack, ginger milk. In the evening, each went back to the hotel to rest and improve the speech materials.

On April 14th, there was a speech by Rich Bowen, VP of Apache Software Foundation and also the chairman of ApacheCon. Several of us went there by coincidence, and the effect of the speech was good. Later at the same venue, Jiang Ning also completed his speech well. In addition to participating in topics of interest to each other, the two most surprising things that day were meeting Shu Min and attending the social event in the evening. I remember that there used to be a girl from Chengdu who was quite active in the open source community. It seems that Ted also said that he wanted me to invite her to Beijing for dinner, but unfortunately I never had the chance to meet her. The name of this girl in my impression is Shu Min. I met her at the venue that day. It was fate. I hadn’t seen her in China for so long, but I met her abroad. I really want to thank FOSSASIA and Kaiyuanshe for allowing everyone to get to know each other, deepen understanding, and enhance friendship. The evening social event was well organized. Participants from all over the world gathered together, tasted authentic local food, drank beer and cocktails made by bar tender, and the on-site photographer took pictures for everyone and printed them out immediately. The most high The most important thing is that everyone joins MALAY DANCE, forms a circle, and dances the cheerful Malaysian folk dance, pushing the event to the climax. I also acted as a Maiba once, joined the karaoke team, and sang a song "Myth". The song request software is based on Linux, which is unique. After the event, everyone was still full of enthusiasm, but because there were many speeches on the last day, they didn’t stay very late and basically left on time.

April 15th is the last day of the conference. There are still several speeches by the Open Source Society, such as the OpenKylin team. Ted's and my speeches are scheduled for the afternoon. Everyone basically completed the task satisfactorily. The conference organizers took special care to adjust my speech to the Lecture Theater, but something went wrong with my speech. A video recorded in the middle was disconnected during streamy playback. I temporarily changed the manual operation, which delayed the reservation for two minutes. I haven’t completed the Apache Openmeetings integration OpenLdap login demo within the time. To be honest, I don’t know how many times I have done this experiment, but the demo on podium still feels different. I’m a little nervous. OK. After the meeting, a friend from Singapore, Mr. Lin, chatted with me. I said I was sorry that I didn’t finish the demo smoothly. He was very nice and said that it was okay. The support of the people of Singapore for the meeting. After all the meetings are over, we will all gather in the Event Hall to clear the venue. Wen Qixiang, a new friend we met at this meeting, is still sticking to it, helping everyone disassemble lamps, roll-up banners and other equipment. The organizing team of the conference, led by Mario and Hong Phuc, also cleaned up the scene in an orderly manner, and finally everyone left reluctantly. At this point, this meeting has ended successfully, and the mission of the Kaiyuan Society team has been successfully completed.
