On August 17, the reporter contacted the doctor's girlfriend, Ms. Yang, who said that her boyfriend graduated from the Institute of Earth Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and later engaged in postdoctoral research.
According to him, Mr. Zhang had a debt problem of tens of thousands of yuan a year ago. After being introduced, he thought he would go to Singapore to work as a translator, but was eventually deceived to Myanmar . "He made a loss from speculating in coins before, his family conditions are average, and his mother is paralyzed, so he saw that the salary is very high on the Internet."
After entering the park, Mr. Zhang sent a message to his girlfriend saying that his mobile phone could not be used and he had to use other mobile phones to communicate. Ms. Yang said that Mr. Zhang's daily job is to chat with others, and the working hours are very long .
Ms. Yang said that the Burmese side required her to transfer 120,000 yuan before releasing him, but after the transfer, she found that the account was frozen and the transfer could not be made. She also learned that her boyfriend was beaten and locked up for this reason.
On August 17, Mr. Zhang’s younger sister said in an interview with the media that the senior is very nice and smart, but he doesn’t like to talk. The staff of the Lushan Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences where Mr. Zhang worked before said that Mr. Zhang is an honest man. His doctoral research direction is ancient plants. He is good at English. He is a postdoctoral fellow and is no longer working here.
After learning about the incident, Mr. Zhang's brother chose to call the police, and the staff of the police station where he registered said he had reported the incident to the Chinese embassy in Myanmar.
On August 22, the Consular and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar replied to the media, saying, " The embassy attaches great importance to the case of Dr. Zhang from the Chinese Academy of Sciences being trapped in Myawaddy, Myanmar, and has contacted the police in Shandong Province and the family members of the parties concerned , and informed Myanmar of the relevant information of the parties involved. , and relevant government departments in Thailand are currently pushing the Burmese and Thai police to fully carry out investigation and rescue work.”
