Due to work needs, some official documents can only be approved by vpn and special controls under the windows system. It is too bulky to bring a computer. After testing, the win7 system was successfully installed on the ipad through a virtual machine. Of course, linux and macos can also be installed and other systems. The process is now recorded as follows for reference by interested friends:
1. Virtual machine: UTM SE without jailbreak and without signature
2. Preparation:
An iPad, the recommended memory is more than 6G, the iPad Pro 2020 or 2021 M1 version is recommended, and 30G storage is reserved.
A computer, PC or Mac, because utm se needs to be installed through the altstore, and the app needs to be installed through the computer Install
Windows image file (.iso), Windows XP and 7 are recommended
3. UTM SE installation steps
1. The first step is to turn on the computer and enter the UTM official website, http://getutm.app/
2. Click Install in the upper right corner
Here we can see the various iOS version installation instructions
Here we choose the AltStore Sideloading installation method
Click the blue word to install AltStore, the download link will pop up automatically, we choose the version corresponding to the system
After we download it, unzip it, click setup and follow the steps to complete the installation
After the installation is complete, you can see the AltStore icon in the lower right corner of the computer
Connect the iPad to the computer, click to install AltStore, if the device cannot be recognized, you can open iTunes (you can download and install it in advance without iTunes)
This process is quite metaphysical. If you can’t connect to the device, you can change the cable and try a few more times. Only the charging data cable cannot install the software.
Your Apple ID and password may be required here (some require secondary verification), and you can enter them normally here
The computer prompts that the installation is complete. If AltStore is not displayed in the iPad, just restart it.
3. Open the website just now with Safari on the iPad, http://getutm.app/install/
4. Click the blue latest IPA release in Download the latest IPA release on your device just below
Safari will open a GitHub page, turn to the bottom to find UTM.SE.ipa, download it to my iPad
If there are viewers who cannot download here, I also extracted the previously downloaded files and put them in the introduction and comments. You can drag the IPA files into the machine through the C-port data cable
5. After the download is complete, open AltStore, click the plus sign in the upper left corner on the My apps page, and select the file you just downloaded
6. After reading the article, it will prompt that the installation is complete, and the icon will appear on the desktop, if not, restart
Up to now, the complete installation of UTM SE is here, and the next step is the installation method of the virtual machine ISO. If you can install the virtual machine through UTM, you can skip it.
Fourth, install win7
Here we need the Windows image file mentioned earlier. We'd better copy the .iso file to the iPad in advance, so that the external storage device can be disconnected for installation in subsequent operations.
Tips, after my personal experiments, it is recommended to use the official image file to install Windows 7 and above systems, otherwise there may be some problems during the installation process.
Next, we will demonstrate by installing 64-bit Windows 7.
1. Enter UTM SE, click to create a virtual machine.
2. Select Simulation
3. Select Windows
4. Click Browse Files at the bottom to find the Windows image file in this machine
5. Click Next
6. Next, we need to select the architecture. The default is x86_64, and the system is Standard PC. It does not need to be changed to install Windows7 and above systems. XP needs to change the system to Standard PC (i444FX+PIIX, 1996)
7. Allocate the memory and CPU. The memory is recommended to be 2048MB. Here you can allocate it according to the actual situation of the iPad. If the memory is too large, the software will prompt that the available memory is insufficient. If the memory allocation is too large, the virtual machine may fail to start or be directly killed by iOS in the background. Causing crashes during installation. The CPU can be fully used. Here, because I use an A12Z processor, I choose to allocate 8 cores. Click Next when finished.
8. Set the storage size, here you can set it according to each version of Windows system, Windows 7 can choose 20GB
9. For file sharing, the installation directory of the virtual machine is selected here. After browsing the files online, a new folder can be added, and then the address can be selected in the newly created folder. Click Next when finished.
10. Summary There is no need to modify here, click Save, and you can see the created virtual machine appears in the directory. Here we are not in a hurry to start the virtual machine, we still need to set some things.
11. Click Settings in the upper right corner, click System, here we need to check the CPU to force multi-core to improve performance. Others may not be adjusted.
12. Back to the previous level, click Save. At this point the virtual machine can be started.
13. After booting, open the virtual keyboard to prepare. When you see the CD/DVD page is being read, press the Enter key quickly to enter the installation program. If you are slow, you can click the third button above and choose to reset the virtual machine to re-enter.
14. At this point, you have entered the Windows installation page, and it will take a little longer. Follow the prompts given by Windows to complete the installation and enter the system.
