Global 5G progress is accelerating. At present, 144 5G networks have been released, and 90 will be launched one after another. There are more than 200 types of 5G devices on the market. Despite the severe impact of the new crown epidemic in 2020, China's 5G commercial scale has achieved rapid development. Liu Liehong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, affirmed my country's 5G development achievements:

First of all, the network capacity has been continuously improved. A total of more than 718,000 5G base stations have been built, accounting for about 70% of the world. The 5G network in the independent networking mode has covered all cities in the country. The number of 5G terminal connections exceeds 200 million. Secondly, the technology industry is maturing rapidly. There are 218 models of 5G mobile phones on the market. At the conference, the "5G Millimeter Wave Exhibition Area" hosted by China Unicom and GSMA and participated by 39 companies including ZTE, Huawei, OPPO, and Purple Mountain Laboratory fully demonstrated to the audience the ultimate performance and rich applications of 5G millimeter wave empowerment for the Winter Olympics .

The exhibition area is divided into six sections: sports experience, event presentation, extreme speed transmission, good memory, terminal display, and environment creation, comprehensively displaying athletes' competitive experience, 5G mixed reality smart snow field, 8K video transmission, 5G full-view event service and free view Various application scenarios such as live broadcasting of sports events.

The on-site speed measurement in the Qualcomm exhibition area shows that under the 4*200M bandwidth carrier aggregation, the network speed can reach 4.4Gbps. In the 5G multi-view field live broadcast exhibition project, through China Unicom's millimeter wave 5G multi-view field live broadcast solution, media reporters can directly take pictures of the outfield of Zhangjiakou International Cross-country Ski Center, and connect drones, head-mounted cameras, and professional photography cameras through wireless networks. 5G millimeter wave application scenarios are accelerating, and will unleash their potential in high-performance application scenarios such as high-definition video, AR/VR, industrial Internet, and Internet of Vehicles in the future.

The 5G millimeter wave industry chain has basically matured. Huawei, ZTE, Ericsson, CITIC, Nokia Bell and other mainstream mobile communication equipment providers have launched base station equipment supporting 5G millimeter wave. Chip and terminal equipment manufacturers have also released a large number of 5G millimeter wave products. In terms of chips, Qualcomm, Hisilicon, Samsung, and MediaTek have all deployed millimeter wave chips.

The conference exhibited 5G millimeter wave terminals from multiple manufacturers, covering modules, mobile phones, CPE, PCs, AR (augmented reality) and XR (extended reality) equipment, live broadcast backpacks, robots and other rich categories, fully demonstrating the 5G millimeter wave terminals. Wave has strong technical strength to meet the needs of high-performance applications.

At present, 5G millimeter wave has been commercialized around the world, and its performance has been verified. Countries and regions such as the United States, Japan, Europe, and Southeast Asia have deployed 5G millimeter wave networks and services, and 130 operators around the world are investing in 5G millimeter wave technology. In the United States, the measured data on the live network shows that the speed of 5G millimeter waves can reach 11 times the speed of the Sub-6GHz frequency band. In the recent Super Bowl in the United States, the 5G millimeter wave network deployed in the venue provided a consistent high-speed experience for the audience in the entire venue. The peak rate exceeded 2.5Gbps, which well supported the immersive multi-view live broadcast. viewing experience.

In 2021, with the joint efforts of the industry chain, China's 5G millimeter wave commercialization will be accelerated. According to GSMA forecasts, by 2034, the economic benefits brought by the use of 5G millimeter wave frequency bands in China will reach approximately US$104 billion.

5G news is ushering in the wind period

As an important achievement of the conference, led by Xinhuanet and jointly with authoritative organizations such as GSMA, China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Academy of Information and Communication Research of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the media industry's first 5G message application standard - "Media Industry General Technical Requirements for Application of 5G Messaging Service". In terms of terminals, up to now, mainstream mobile phone manufacturers have released news that more than 60 terminals support 5G; ecologically, through holding developer competitions and conducting commercial pilots, they have incubated more than 300 applications covering nine major industries including government and finance.

At the same time, 5G messaging, as an upgrade of the traditional SMS service in the 5G era, has been widely recognized by operators around the world. Screens, charging and AR/VR become terminal innovation trends

In terms of terminals, folding screens, air charging, off-screen cameras and diversified AR/VR terminals have become highlights.

Nreal exhibited its commercially available MR glasses "Nreal Light" and a series of application scenarios of the product. At present, the Nebula system supports a large number of native Android applications, and ordinary users can directly call Douyin, iQiyi, Kuaishou, Bilibili, etc. on their mobile phones.
