The 2023 IJCAI YES Youth Elite Academic Conference officially opens: a group of talents will come together to open a three-day feast of wisdom

Content overview: In 2019, the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence released the research report "China Surpasses the United States in the Field of Artificial Intelligence Research". This report reflects the leap from "number" to "quality" in the field of artificial intelligence in China, which is not only due to the promotion of national policies, but also because of the unremitting exploration of many domestic universities.

At present, the development process in the field of artificial intelligence is changing with each passing day. For the academic community, how to seize the opportunity to further promote scientific research has become a very important topic. Therefore, a high-level discussion is particularly urgent.

The scene is full of dry goods and the atmosphere is warm!

A group of talented people has arrived, and the event is unprecedented

Professor Zhang Chengqi, vice president of the University of Technology Sydney, consultant of the 2023 IJCAI YES conference, member of the IJCAI Council (2021-2026), chairman of the IJCAI-PRICAI 2024 conference, and Dr. Shao Yilei, secretary-general of the IJCAI-SAIA China Joint Office and chairperson of the 2023 IJCAI YES conference, co-chaired the opening ceremony of the conference.

At the beginning of the opening ceremony, Zhang Ying, deputy director of the Shanghai Economic and Information Commission, made an opening speech to the conference.

First of all, Deputy Director Zhang Ying said that the new round of scientific and technological revolution represented by artificial intelligence is accelerating. Among them, strengthening basic theoretical research and accelerating key core technology research and development have become the key to innovation and development in the field. She further introduced that Shanghai attaches great importance to academic research and technological innovation in the field of artificial intelligence, focusing on large-scale models, intelligent computing, scientific intelligence and embodied intelligence, attaches great importance to the development of talents in related fields, and actively builds a talent exchange platform .

Finally, she stated that the purpose of this conference is to bring together more young scholars to display research results, exchange academic views, interact with world-class scientific and technological talents, and promote a situation of co-creation of science and technology, knowledge sharing, and win-win development.

Next, Maria Gini, a professor at the University of Minnesota and a member of the IJCAI Council, addressed the conference.

Professor Maria Gini first expressed her sincere thanks to all the participants. She compared the young scholars present to young and promising stars of tomorrow, calling them the hope of the future.

She further expressed her gratitude to the organizers and the organizing committee for their dedication and support to this conference, and at the same time extended a sincere invitation to all participants, inviting young scholars present to participate in IJCAI 2023, which will be held in Macau, China from August 19 to 25, 2023, and IJCAI 2024, which will be held in Shanghai from July 13 to 19, 2024.

Next, Professor Zhou Aoying, vice president of East China Normal University, delivered a speech to the conference.

Professor Zhou Aoying mentioned that the ChatGPT craze appeared at the beginning of this year, which brought artificial intelligence to everyone again, and also brought two important revelations. First, fundamental changes have taken place in scientific paradigms; second, new paths for technological development have emerged. He lamented that the country has made many achievements in the field of artificial intelligence, which cannot be separated from the wisdom and efforts of young scholars.

For East China Normal University, it has also played an important role in the development of science and technology. On the one hand, the school's Department of Informatics has formed a discipline system that emphasizes both foundation and application. On the other hand, the 2023 IJCAI YES hosted by the school is currently the largest international conference in the field of information, and it has also contributed to the establishment of Shanghai as an international artificial intelligence research highland.

Next, Vesna Sabljakovic-Fritz, professor of Vienna University of Technology and secretary-general of the IJCAI Council, delivered a speech to the conference.

Vesna Sabljakovic-Fritz expressed his sincere gratitude online to all the participating leaders, including Zhang Ying, deputy director of the Shanghai Economic and Information Commission, Professor Zhang Chengqi, chairman of the IJCAI-PRICAI 2024 conference, Dr. Shao Yilei, secretary general of the IJCAI-SAIA China Joint Office, and all participants for their support to the conference.

It is worth looking forward to that Vesna Sabljakovic-Fritz will also meet you offline at the closing ceremony.

Then, Professor Zhang Chengqi, vice president of University of Technology Sydney, member of the IJCAI council, and chairman of the IJCAI-PRICAI 2024 conference, informed the participants that IJCAI-PRICAI 2024 will be held in Shanghai from July 13 to 19, 2024.

According to Professor Zhang Chengqi, it is expected that 800+ paper authors will attend IJCAI-PRICAI 2024, and the scale of the conference may exceed 5000+. At the same time, he kindly invites participants to mobilize more teachers and students to attend IJCAI-PRICAI 2024.

Next, Dr. Shao Yilei, Secretary-General of the IJCAI-SAIA China Joint Office, introduced the 2023 IJCAI YES meeting.

In her speech, Dr. Shao Yilei pointed out that in the era of artificial intelligence, a question has become more urgent - "human beings are still there" or "human beings are not there"? She believes that in the face of this problem, outstanding scientists in the field of artificial intelligence all over the world and all mankind, uphold the belief that "human beings will still exist", and explore the path and method of "how human beings are still alive".

Based on this background, as the youth version of IJCAI, YES invites young scholars from all over China and the world to come here to share research results, deepen friendship and build common beliefs.

Luc De Raedt, a professor at the University of Leuven in Belgium and foreign chairman of the program committee of the 2023 IJCAI YES conference, delivered a speech at the conference.

Professor Luc De Raedt introduced the 54 papers shared at the conference, 15 from IJCAI-21 and 39 from IJCAI-22, all of which were strictly selected and considered diversity.

He proposed that diversity is mainly reflected in three aspects: theme diversity, covering many topics in the field of artificial intelligence; gender diversity, including female authors in addition to male contributors; regional diversity, papers come from different universities and research institutes across China.

Next, Professor Zhang Guixu, Director of the Informatics Department of East China Normal University and the Chinese Chairman of the Program Committee of the 2023 IJCAI YES Conference, introduced the program to the participants.

Professor Zhang Guixu mentioned that the YES conference was a feast of ideas. He introduced the most anticipated parts of this conference - five keynote speeches, two forums, 54 academic reports and a dialogue.

At the same time, he introduced the composition of the organizing committee of the meeting, the composition of the participants and the specific situation of the meeting.

At the end of the opening ceremony, Pan Liang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Politics and International Relations of East China Normal University and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 2023 IJCAI YES Conference, introduced the conference affairs to everyone in a relaxed tone.

Pan Liang mainly introduced the distribution of the venue and the information of the conference agenda and activities to the participants. At the same time, he emphasized that the plenary dinner scheduled to be held at 18:30 on July 5 will include 39 academic leaders, which also built another form of communication platform for the participants.
