Install VMware Tools on Ubuntu 18.04 system

Step1: Open Ubuntu → [Virtual Machine] → [Reinstall VMware Tools], see Figure 1.

A system that has not installed VMware Tools before will display [Install VMware Tools]

After the VMware Tools installation package is downloaded, a prompt message will appear at the bottom of VMware, as shown in Figure 2.

Step2: In the Ubuntu interface, click [File] → [VMware Tools], and the installation package of VMware Tools will be displayed: [VMwareTools-10.1.6-5214329.tar.gz], see Figure 3.

Step3: Copy the [VMwareTools-10.1.6-5214329.tar.gz] installation package to a folder or desktop. Copy this article to the [/home/cui/software/VMware_toos] folder. Right click [Copy] -> [Paste] to complete this step.

Note: [cui/software/VMware_tools] is the path of the folder created by yourself, so don’t copy it blindly. You can create your own paths.

Step4: Open the terminal in this folder, and decompress the installation package (the path must be opened correctly).

Decompression command: [tar -zxvf VMwareTools-10.1.6-5214329.tar.gz], see Figure 4.

Figure 4 Unzip the installation package

After the decompression is complete, [vmware-tools-distrib] will appear in the folder, as shown in Figure 5.

Step5: Enter the vmware-tools-distrib folder: [cd vmware-tools-distrib/]. There will be a vmware-install.pl file in this folder. Then run the file [./vmware-install.pl]. When encountering [yes] or (yes/no) [yes], just select the default and press Enter. See Figure 6 for detailed operations.

If there is no problem, the installation of VMware Tools is completed at this step. Display Enjoy, see picture.

When I installed to this step, the system appeared [Execution aborted.] error (see Figure 7), which means that VMware Tools was not installed successfully.

Don't worry, don't panic, continue to follow me to do the following operations, and easily solve this small problem.

Step6: Execute the command [rm -rf /etc/vmware-tools] → [rm -rf /tmp/vm ] → [./vmware*.pl] in turn, as shown in Figure 8.

Note: When encountering [no], input [yes] to let the program continue to run.

[Overwrite? [yes]] encountered during program running, see Figure 9. Don't worry, just keep pressing enter, and you will be pressing many, many enters at this time!

Figure 9 Is it Overwrite?

Finally, the program will display the words [Enjoy], as shown in Figure 10, which indicates that VMware Tools is installed successfully!

It took some time to finally install VMware Tools successfully, but there are many details in it that I can't understand the meaning and reason at this time. Only by continuing to learn, constantly enriching one's cognition, let oneself have a deeper understanding of the operating principle of Linux.
