There are many ways to share files between two computers, and here is the most concise one - Windows' built-in Nearby Sharing . It is suitable for transferring some simple files occasionally. For example, transfer the e-book on the laptop to the surface for reading.
Notice:

If the shared PC is running the latest version of Windows 11, you can share over Wi-Fi if the shared Windows 10/11 PC is connected to the same private Wi-Fi network. Otherwise, it can be shared via Bluetooth.

To share files with a PC running Windows 10, it must be running Windows 10, version 1803 or later. To find out which version of Windows you have installed, see Which Windows operating system am I running ?

Step 1. Press "Windows + I" on both the receiving and sending devices to open the settings, then select "System" > "Experience Sharing", and turn on the "Nearby Sharing" button. And select "Anyone nearby", if both devices are logged in with their Microsoft accounts, you can select "Only my device"
Step 2: Select the file to be sent, right-click "Share", select the target device to send Can. The file notification will be received in the lower right corner of the receiving device.
Added: Sharing across devices
"Cross-device sharing" under Nearest Sharing is for sharing application data. For example, after logging in to the same Microsoft account, clipboard data can be exchanged.
