PostgreSQL 16 beta is released, OpenPie once again leads China to contribute key forces

PostgreSQL has always been hailed as one of the most advanced open source relational databases in the world, and has been ranked among the top five in the DB-engines ranking list for a long time. On May 25, the PostgreSQL global development team officially announced that PostgreSQL 16 Beta 1 was officially released.

This new version of PostgreSQL has many features and features, involving multiple modules, including query execution performance improvements, logical replication enhancements, security feature enhancements, monitoring and management features, and more. With this milestone release, PostgreSQL will bring more great features and innovative improvements to users around the world.

As an open source database, PostgreSQL's success is due to the development contributions of the global developer community. Among the features released in this new version, OpenPie engineers can be seen in many places. Whether it is in terms of code quantity or quality, OpenPie has played a leading role in China's code contributions and has become a key force in promoting PostgreSQL technology innovation in China.

OpenPie has been active in the PostgreSQL community at home and abroad, actively participating in community contributions in various forms such as code contributions, lecturer walks, and technical content. In terms of code contribution, several R&D colleagues participated in the contribution of PostgreSQL 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 versions. It is particularly proud that in the latest PostgreSQL 16 version, only OpenPie kernel engineer Richard Guo contributed 83 commits.

What is even more proud is that among the six new features of the optimizer module released in the new version, Richard, as the main author, has led two of the important features

  • Allow Memorize on Union All
  • Allow non-null inputs to be used as inner tables to perform anti-joins

According to the 2021 State of PostgreSQL Survey data, 85% of respondents have never contributed to the PostgreSQL codebase, documentation, or commits, and only 4% have contributed a few times. The outstanding achievement of the OpenPie R&D team fully demonstrates OpenPie's core cultural concept of embracing openness and pursuing innovation, and also benefits from the strong strength and deep understanding of technology of the R&D team.

The birth of OpenPie's flagship product PieCloudDB is also due to the team's firm pursuit of technological innovation. As a cloud-native virtual data warehouse, PieCloudDB integrates the physical data warehouse into the cloud-native data computing platform, and dynamically creates virtual data warehouses according to data authorization. Flexible calculations are required to break down data islands and support the data and calculations required for larger models.

The OpenPie technical team will continue to explore on the road of product innovation, with the goal of building a cloud-native virtual data warehouse with high security, high reliability, and high online "rock-solid" to help enterprises maximize data value and better empower enterprises. It can enable business development and go green, and become a model for the new generation of AI data computing infrastructure.
