guide | Ubuntu 22.04 LTS launched on April 21 as Canonical's ninth long-term support (LTS) series, meaning it will be supported with software and security updates for the next five years, until April 2027. |
Currently Ubuntu 22.04 LTS has the first security update from the Linux live installation image (linux-image 5.15.0-25) to fix three security vulnerabilities discovered by security researchers.
These include CVE-2022-26490, a flaw found in the Linux kernel's ST21NFCA NFC driver that could allow an attacker to cause a DOS (system crash) or potentially execute arbitrary code.
Also patched in this security update are CVE-2022-1015 and CVE-2022-1016, two security issues discovered in the netfilter subsystem of the Linux kernel. These vulnerabilities could allow a local attacker to cause a DOS, execute arbitrary code, or expose sensitive information (kernel memory).
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS users should update to the new kernel security version linux-image 5.15.0-27.28. Security updates can be performed by running the sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade command in the Terminal application , or using Software Updater.
