3D Modeling: Midjourney 3 minutes vs C4D 3 hours

As a product designer, I have always been keen to explore various design software. Two years ago, when I first started teaching myself 3D modeling, I remember spending four hours building the Nintendo Famicom from scratch, meticulously adding intricate details like sunken button arcs, waiting an hour for renders and then having a sense of An indescribable sense of accomplishment.

However, I recently used Midjourney to create a new Nintendo Famicom in just three minutes. While the extreme efficiency of the creative process is impressive, I can't help but feel conflicted about the role of artificial intelligence in the creative process.

Nintendo Famicom for C4D took me 4 hours, Midjouney in 3 minutes

While I can still see Midjourney's shortcomings in details like the wavy texture of potato chips, the pattern on the surface of candy, and the sunken buttons of a game console, the AI software has evolved rapidly over the past four months. It is foreseeable that future versions of Midjourney, such as V6, V7, and V8, will perform better.

So, I began to reflect on how the rapid development of such brutal AI software will bring about changes to designers. There is no doubt that the invention of software such as Midjourney has greatly lowered the barrier to entry for design software, while at the same time raising the bar for good design. Therefore, I predict that in the next 3 to 5 years, people's definition of good design will become higher and higher
