On March 11, 2022, Open Source Society solemnly announced that the Open Source Strategy Research Group (ONES Group) was formally established! The establishment of this research group aims to benchmark and connect with open source governance organizations such as the Linux Foundation's TODO Group and the EU's OSPO Alliance.

Why was Part1 established?

" Open source governance, international integration, and community development " has always been the purpose of Kaiyuanshe since its establishment. With the continuous deepening of digitalization, open source has also begun to become popular and recognized by more and more people. The significance of open source governance and community operations has also been unearthed and clarified.

As an important part of the digital economy, digital governance, and digital sovereignty, foreign organizations such as the TODO Group under the Linux Foundation and the OSPO Alliance of the European Union, etc., regard open source governance as a strategic level for the future development of an organization or region, and as a digital sovereignty The core support of the mission includes but is not limited to: raising global awareness of open source, promoting structured and professional management of open source by all parties (including enterprises, governments, efficient, etc.), helping companies and public institutions discover and understand open source, helping Everyone benefits from the entire open source ecosystem, etc.

In line with the original intention of the establishment of the Open Source Society, we officially initiated the establishment of the " Open Source Strategy Research Group " ( ONES Group ).

What is Part2ONES Group?

The purpose of ONES Group is to:

  • O penness _ _

We hope to continue to play the role of the Open Source Society in linking communities at home and abroad, and bring together our vast number of professionals in open source governance and community operations to carry out various "community-industry-academic-research-policy" activities.

Topics we focus on include, but are not limited to:

ONES will be established and hosted on Kaiyuanshe's website and GitHub warehouse, and provide enterprises, public institutions, research and academic organizations with comprehensive expert knowledge base resources in an open source collaborative manner, and cooperate with OSPO and supportive communities in China and around the world Organizations connect, encourage business and organizational best practices, and foster sustainable contributions to the open source ecosystem.

We believe that as open source becomes more important to all aspects of the economy and society, OSPO is becoming an essential feature of any organization interested in innovation and collaboration. We hope to build an overall framework for enterprise open source governance and community operations by relying on various resources of Kaiyuanshe to support different levels of open source governance and operational needs.

Part3 What are we going to do?

The famous "Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory" was first fully elaborated by Abraham Maslow in his book "Motivation and Personality" in 1954. This popular framework can easily arouse people's consensus through interdisciplinary approaches (such as sociology, psychology, and management), as well as wherever people and organizations are involved, and open source governance and community operations are no exception.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Model

Based on several mainstream open source governance and community operation frameworks around the world, we also hope to participate, contribute, collaborate and innovate under such a common and universal framework.

Open Source Governance Framework

Under the framework of open source governance, we also think about various matters related to the operation (management) of the open source community, and hope to jointly build a healthy and sustainable open source community and ecology.

Everyone has been waiting for many years for the expectations and needs of establishing an organization like ONES Group in the Chinese open source community. ONES is a brand that especially touches the minds of open source people. Understanding open source requires an open source-based worldview. The development of open source requires a methodology derived from open source. If we expect to be able to make a better and greater contribution to the whole world, we need to establish an "open source science". Initiating the establishment of ONES Group is a new starting point for our joint efforts. As a sponsor, I am very much looking forward to working with more friends in the field of open source to carry out more explorations and gain more ideas.

The term open source has developed from the initial "open source code" to today. It is far from just the opening of software codes, but a new paradigm of group collaboration. Through various open source practices that bloom everywhere, it shows Each has its own unique mode of innovation. Open Source Society has been discussing open source governance since its establishment in 2014. Today, in 2022, we established ONES Group, oriented towards open source governance and open source as a strategy (Open Source as a Strategy), and operating in an open source governance model. China is already the most important user and contributor of open source software in the world, and many open source start-ups have also begun to gain the attention and support of innovation capital. It is only in the initial development stage; therefore, many domestic enterprises, open source communities, research institutes, universities and even government agencies have begun to pay attention to or invest in the research and development of open source governance and community operations. As the first open-source community to advocate open-source governance in China, Kaiyuanshe remains true to our original aspiration and is willing to join hands with domestic and foreign open-source partners to create and forge ahead, lay a solid foundation for open-source governance and community operations, and strive for excellence.

As an open source participant, I have personally experienced the surge of open source in China in recent years, and I have also seen many unknown sides of the open source community. The real open source world is not as lively as it seems. It is hoped that through ONES Group, more fields can be linked, awareness of open source can be improved, prejudice against open source can be corrected, more people can understand open source, participate in open source, contribute to open source, and make the world of open source no longer deserted.
