Following major moves such as independent research and development of chips and the wholly-owned acquisition of Zhongtianwei, Alibaba has also shown its determination to conquer core technologies in global academic cooperation.


Different from previous academic cooperation, Alibaba will open up real business scenarios and combine it with the top scientific research strength of global universities, so that cutting-edge technologies can be rapidly iterated in real scenarios and play a greater value.


Ma Yun said at the first Digital China Construction Summit that China needs a large number of enterprises that can take on major responsibilities to lead technological change. Dharma Academy is an entity organization that reflects Ali's scientific research determination. In terms of R&D system, in addition to its own research centers, it also includes university joint laboratories and global innovation research programs. The combination of production, education and research has made breakthroughs in core technologies.


   The "Global Innovation Research Program" (AIR Program for short) proposes 8 major technical directions in the research direction of DAMO Academy, allowing scientists from all over the world to define and solve problems together. The 8 directions include: machine learning, natural language understanding, multimedia and natural human-computer interaction, knowledge engine, infrastructure, system software, data computing and security. These are also key technical fields involved in China's construction of a cyber power.

As a part of the AIR plan, Ali also announced the AIR special research plan on the same day - the Tibetan Scripture Pavilion plan. The program brings together five universities, namely Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Soochow University, to describe concepts, entities and their relationships in the objective world in a structured form, and to express Internet information content as It is closer to the form of human cognition of the world, so that the computer has brain-like reasoning ability. At the same time, Ali also announced that it intends to initially build the first open knowledge engine service platform in one year to serve small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Cangjing Pavilion plan will focus on building technologies at two levels of knowledge construction and knowledge reasoning, taking multi-source large-scale data as the object, and studying common key technologies for transforming from big data to general and domain knowledge. Alibaba hopes to introduce cutting-edge natural language processing, knowledge representation and reasoning technologies through joint research and development with universities to form a complete knowledge engine service platform and open it to the outside world to serve all small and medium-sized enterprises.
