Xfce Terminal 1.0.0 stable version released

Xfce Terminal 1.0.0 stable version has been officially released .

Xfce Terminal is a lightweight and easy-to-use terminal emulator application with many advanced features including dropdowns, tabs, infinite scrolling, full color support, modifiable fonts, transparent backgrounds, and more.

Major Improvements

  • The Scrolling on ouput preference has been improved and will now be temporarily disabled if scrolling up
  • Support overlay scroll bar
  • Supports sending signals to foreground processes through the UI
  • Redesigned '--tab' and '--window' command line arguments to be more intuitive
  • Added new style option "fill" for those using background images
  • Major improvements to the "Unsafe Paste" dialog, which now also provides an option to temporarily disable it
  • Changing the behavior of right-click is now supported
  • Changes to accelerators that contain a "Tab" key are now supported at runtime
  • Created a new shortcut editor for Xfce applications, Xfce Terminal is one of the first applications to support it (requires libxfce4ui 4.17.2 or higher)
  • Use XfceTitledDialog whenever possible to work better with the rest of the Xfce desktop

The maintainer says that in terms of low-level improvements, he spends most of his time rewriting the code that handles accelerators and creates various menus. Through these development efforts, he removed most of the deprecated code in Xfce Terminal and fixed various minor issues or inconsistencies in the old code, while also reducing the size of the codebase.

Future plan

  • Override the preferences dialog to use the XfceTitledDialog and integrate the shortcut editor into it
  • Create a new settings editor widget in libxfce4ui by reusing code from existing settings editor and using it to eliminate hidden preferences
  • Documentation for all public functions in Xfce Terminal
  • Introducing a feature like Profiles that will close a bunch of open issues
  • Tab recovery outside of the Xfce environment
  • Improved FreeBSD support
