Microsoft Edge 81 stable version released

The stable version of Microsoft Edge 81 is now available , and users can download it on Windows and Mac. This version has many new features added, including Collections and Dolby Vision playback support; and further improvements to the F12 Dev tool, now supports 10 new languages, and so on.

The specific updates are as follows:

Feature update

  • Collections are now available. Users can start using the "Collections" icon next to the address bar. This action will open the "Collections" pane, where users can create, edit, and view Collections.
  • Allows the "Collections" button (hidden from the toolbar) to be removed from the Microsoft Edge toolbar to maintain consistency.
  • Automatic logon for local Active Directory accounts will only target organizations that have this feature enabled.
  • Application Guard improvements. Extended support is now available in containers.
  • Added a message informing the user that Internet Explorer was not installed when navigating to a page configured to open in Internet Explorer mode.
  • The 3D view tool in Microsoft Edge DevTools has been updated with new features to help debug the z-index stack context.
  • The F12 Dev tool has been improved and now supports 10 new languages.
  • Added support for Dolby Vision playback. On Windows 10 Build 17134 with Dolby Vision enabled (updated in April 2018), the website can display Dolby Vision content.
  • Microsoft Edge can now recognize and delete duplicate favorites, and merge folders with the same name. To access the tool, click the asterisk on the browser toolbar and select "Delete duplicate favorites." The user can confirm the changes and all updates in the favorites will be synchronized between the devices.
  • According to user feedback, since both window frames are dark, it is difficult to distinguish the normal browsing window of the dark theme from the InPrivate window. The new InPrivate blue pill added in the upper right corner helps ensure that users are browsing InPrivate.
  • Open the external link in the correct browser configuration file.
  • Added a warning to users who previously used another account to log in to the browser profile after logging in with another account. This warning will help prevent accidental data consolidation.
  • If payment cards are saved in the user ’s Microsoft account, they can be used in Microsoft Edge when filling out the payment form.
  • Line Focus is specially designed for users who want to focus on part of the content when reading.
  • Microsoft Edge is now integrated with Windows Speller on Windows platform 8.1 and higher. This integration provides more language support, can access more language dictionaries, and can use Windows custom dictionaries.
  • After opening a PDF document using Microsoft Edge, users can now create highlights, change colors, and delete highlights. This feature helps to refer to important parts of the document and collaborate in the future.
  • When loading a long PDF document optimized for the web, while loading the rest of the document, the page that the user is viewing will be loaded in parallel faster.
  • Now, just press the F9 key to start the immersive reader for the website.
  • Now, use the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + Shift + U) to start "Read Aloud" more easily.
  • An MSI command line parameter has been added, which allows users to prevent the creation of desktop icons when installing Microsoft Edge. The following example demonstrates how to use this new parameter:
    MicrosoftEdgeEnterpriseX64.msi DONOTCREATEDESKTOPSHORTCUT=true
In the upcoming release, there will be a group policy to support this feature.

solved problem

  • Fixed the following issue: Even if the file was downloaded, IE mode on Microsoft Edge caused the ongoing download dialog to be displayed.
  • Fixed an issue where Microsoft Edge discards session cookies when a page that is already in IE mode triggers the opening of a new IE mode tab.
