Open platform of Wasm contract ecology
Patract is the Wasm contract open platform of the Polkadot ecology. We will start the Wasm contract system parachain to improve the full set of development technologies, and then help other parachains to obtain Wasm contract support capabilities. Patract will not adopt a closed model similar to iOS to maintain a single self-operated parachain. Instead, it will imitate Google's Android open strategy and combine the power of the community parachain to quickly increase the popularity of Wasm contracts.
The Patract core team focuses on building a full set of Wasm contract support capabilities, including on-chain operating environment, contract development language, development tool suite, DApp front-end support, etc. Later, with the help of the unique functions and operational capabilities of the community parachain, this complete set of technologies will be exported to the entire parachain ecosystem. Patract does not issue new coins, and the development progress is promoted by the funding of the Polkadot Treasury and the transaction fees of each chain contract module.
Wasm contract advantages
The Wasm contract module is a new advanced smart contract technology developed by Parity. Compared with Ethereum's EVM contract, it has higher performance and supports the use of high-level languages (Rust, C++, AssemblyScript, etc.) to write more complex business logic. At the same time, relying on the upcoming Polkadot ecology, Wasm contracts will eventually surpass EVM contracts and become the inevitable direction of future contract technology evolution.
Parity and Web3 mainly focus on the development of the contract operating environment (FRAME Contracts) and the Rust-based ink! language. In the past six months, Patract has supported the Poka Treasury’s 10 proposals to complement the surrounding key development tools and Operating environment support: including Ask! language based on AssemblyScript, ZKP supports Megaclite, develops scaffolding Redspot, runs sandbox Europa, node API service Elara, multi-language SDK Himalia, etc. At the same time, the DApp application store PatraStore will be released soon, and the contract browser PatraScan, contract standard library Metis, contract monitoring platform Leda, and cloud IDE Carpo will continue to be developed in the future.
Patract revolves around a complete contract development process: Develop-Debug-Test-Deploy, design corresponding tools for each link, and assist contract developers to develop contracts more easily.
Compared with Polkadot Parachain development, contract development does not require an auction card slot, no need to understand Substrate technology, and at the same time, it can directly obtain the composability of millions of contract applications within the contract parachain without cross-chain interaction with other parachain applications. The real superiority of Substrate lies in the development of various platforms through the innovation of the underlying technology and chain mode, rather than the carrying of a single application. This type of platform technology includes smart contracts, privacy, storage, communications, cross-chain bridges, etc., and smart contracts are the most important technical element, because they can carry business logic and programmable assets. The contract chain naturally supports dynamic real-time deployment of contract applications, while a single-application parachain can only slowly accept community developers through centralized review and on-chain governance.
DApp App Store: PatraStore Preview
Through the research of the existing ecological DApp operation of Ethereum, Patract found the following problems and formed the idea of developing a new type of application store to improve the experience of users and developers. Let us briefly think about the following questions, and stay tuned for the PatraStore improvement plan that will be launched next week.
Thinking 1: In addition to the developer’s attempts to develop and deploy contracts on various contract platforms, whether it’s EVM or Wasm contracts, have end users really seen the interactive Polkadot DApp application?
Thinking 2: The current form of DApp on the PC side is an independent website entry. Users need to connect various wallets for each DApp, and only one account can be displayed at a time. Is this mode of operation obsolete? Can it satisfy Polkadot? Experience requirements for multi-chain accounts?
Thinking 3: The DApp application store in the Ethereum ecosystem is only static information display and statistical ranking. Users still need to jump to the independent website of the DApp for operation, and the DApp can be released independently without the need to be on the store. How to improve the app store’s performance Cohesion to enhance the dual experience of developers and users?
