In December last year, the CentOS project officially stated that the project support cycle will be shortened to the end of 2021 and replaced by the CentOS Stream version recommended by Red Hat, which means that this is a rolling project and is upstream of RHEL. This move caused shocks from all parties, and users expressed anxiety. Since the earlier CentOS was actually downstream of RHEL, it has always been known for its usability and stability. Switching to the Stream version will bring certain hidden dangers to production. Kurtzer, the father of CentOS, was the first to disagree. He established the Rocky Linux project that month to build the next CentOS. The project's plan is to complete the product release before CentOS bids farewell in 2021.

Red Hat has recently adjusted its strategy and published an article "New Year, new Red Hat Enterprise Linux programs: Easier ways to access RHEL" on the official blog on January 20, 2021. The article stated Since the official announcement of the suspension of CentOS, a wide range of user and community feedback has been collected. Many people want to know what impact the deployment and component system will have. At the same time, it said that it has realized the damage to some users and will continue to work on the construction and maintenance of the RHEL ecosystem. Then I brought you low-cost, no-cost RHEL for individuals and small teams:

No-cost RHEL for small production workloads, by extending the developer project terms, allows a single developer subscription of RHEL to be used for the production of up to 16 systems. As long as you log in to your account, you can get it. There is no sales representative to follow up. You can also upgrade to full support during the subscription. The expanded developer project terms will also benefit the public cloud, and you only need to pay the hosting fee for the cloud service. RHEL is provided free of charge to customer development teams, which is also the Red Hat Developer Program. Development teams can now add services to the program through customers’ existing subscriptions.
In addition, Red Hat also stated that RHEL will turn CentOS Stream into a collaboration center for RHEL in scenarios such as Fedora Linux, CentOS Stream, and RHEL. This work has not yet been completed. More information will be provided in mid-February.
Up to now, I have not found the update plan and free download path after logging on to the Red Hat website, and calling the customer service also said that I have not received a notification. It is reported that individual developer subscriptions will be available before February 1, 2021.
