Increase support, AWS plans to hire more Rust developers

As part of its plan, AWS announced its intention to hire more Rust developers in the coming months to support the open source community behind this young language.

In 2019, AWS published an article on its open source blog announcing its sponsorship of the Rust language , and successively wrote many products in Rust. Among them, the latest product is a Linux-based container operating system- Bottlerocket .

In addition to providing sponsorship, AWS clearly plans to use its recruiting power to support the language. Recently, AWS has started hiring contributors from Rust and Tokio. Tokio is a runtime that uses Rust to write applications for various devices.

AWS revealed that they are establishing a Rust and Tokio team to support its long-term plan. Matt Asay, AWS's open source executive, said, "Given our dependence on Rust, we need deep internal Rust expertise, just like our needs for Java and other basic technologies.

Shane Miller, AWS's senior software engineering manager, is responsible for the recruitment of Rust engineers. She explained the importance of Rust to AWS, saying that Rust is an important part of the team's long-term strategy, and they are investing to provide Rust engineering on Amazon scale, including developer tools, infrastructure components, interoperability and verification . Currently, it has approximately 120 vacancies related to Rust , covering software development, hardware development, support engineering, and systems and security engineers.

Marc Brooker, AWS Senior Principal Engineer, believes that this recruitment will benefit both the AWS and Rust communities, because it will encourage more people to learn the language and then contribute. "Hire engineers to work directly with Rust, allowing us to improve Rust in ways that are important to us and our customers, and to help grow the entire Rust community."
