imToken announces official support for Filecoin

imToken has officially supported Filecoin and will open the transfer function after the Filecoin mainnet launch on October 15.

Filecoin is the eleventh public chain project officially supported by imToken. Users can download and update to imToken 2.7.0 through imToken official website, App Store and Google Play to use the Filecoin wallet function.

Officially supported Article 11 public chain

In the past year, imToken has continued to support many outstanding public chain projects. This time Filecoin is the eleventh public chain we officially support. Previously, imToken has supported ten public chains including ETH, BTC, ATOM, EOS, TRX, CKB, BCH, LTC, KSM, and DOT.

As a decentralized storage network, Filecoin has a built-in economic incentive mechanism to ensure that files can be stored reliably even over time. The storage proof consensus protocol used by Filecoin can not only ensure the security of the storage network, it can also be used for FIL token transfers, and it also supports virtual machines-used to run encrypted contracts and market mechanisms.

The Filecoin mainnet will be officially launched on the evening of October 15, 2020. Like other blockchains, Filecoin also has a native currency called Filecoin (FIL for short). At that time, the FIL transfer function will also be enabled. Miners can obtain FIL by providing data storage and retrieval.

Filecoin — the incentive layer of IPFS

Regarding Filecoin, I have to mention IPFS. IPFS is a peer-to-peer distributed file system designed to replace HTTP and change the way users obtain information.

When we use the Internet to communicate with the world, we use the HTTP transfer protocol and C/S mode. Data is stored in a centralized network, distribution and management is very easy; but there are many weaknesses in security, privacy and efficiency, especially when transferring large amounts of data. In the current era of big data, a new way is needed to solve these drawbacks.

The core of IPFS is based on content addressing, rather than traditional domain name addressing. This will change the way people get information. Under HTTP, people find content and get services through domain names. Under the IPFS architecture, people directly search for content instead of obtaining information through domain names.

After several years of development, the IPFS protocol has also been recognized by the community. The global IPFS node has exceeded 100,000, the public gateway requests more than 13 million times a day, and the data exceeds 5TB.

IPFS ecology

However, IPFS also has some problems. IPFS nodes lack the power to maintain data on the network for a long time, which may cause file loss. As the incentive layer of IPFS, Filecoin aims to provide an economic incentive mechanism to solve the data problems mentioned above. Whether from the perspective of realizing the vision of IPFS or from the perspective of Web3.0, decentralized storage is very important.

Filecoin is a decentralized storage market. Storage users pay miners to get services, and miners get paid by helping users store files or retrieve data. These fees and rewards are circulated in the Filecoin network through its native token FIL.

imToken is a decentralized wallet that manages multi-chain assets. It has always paid attention to decentralized storage. From the perspective of users and the industry, imToken will support and participate in this ecology.

Users can manage their own FIL in the imToken wallet after the Filecoin mainnet is online. Following the iterative update of Filecoin, imToken wallet will continue to improve various related functions.
