Filecoin Weekly-Issue 61: The hot Filecoin community under network reset

Co-edited by Steven Li and Iris

【Project Introduction】

Filecoin is a decentralized storage network that transforms cloud storage into an algorithm market .

Miners - obtain FIL by providing data storage and retrieval

Clients- allow miners to provide storage, distribution and retrieval data services by paying FIL

[Project progress: Calibration ]

(The official Gantt chart has not been updated)

test version:

  • Still in the calibration stage

Test objectives:

  • Network security
  • Calibration network test (in operation)
  • Test reward plan (August 17 Japan Week)
  • Economic model parameters (current parameters do not represent the main network)

project progress:

  • Calibration was reset again on Thursday, and the network is currently running smoothly
  • Drand service goes online
  • The big miner test start time is currently set for August 17 Japan Week

[Hot Spots of Last Week]

  • At 11 o'clock in the evening on August 13, the Filecoin network was reset again. So far, the network is operating normally.

[Filecoin Weekly] Issue 61: Hot Filecoin community under network reset

  • On August 11th, Filecoin core developer @Why announced in Slack the setting of new v28 parameters, which is beneficial to Chinese miners for storage services.

[Progress of testnet last week]

1) After the reset on 08/08, it runs until Friday (08/14), there are more changes:

  • Market part: the effectiveness of addressing is improved, the bot code is updated, hoping not to affect the success rate of miners due to the bot's own problems
  • Message filtering and selection improved, more efficient
  • Gas cost calculation, using EIP1559: GAS calculation is handled in two parts: basic cost and Tip
  • Runs more smoothly, more changes enter

2) 08/14 restarted again, using v28 parameters, the economic model slightly changed

  • Running for two days, the operation is relatively stable
  • The height is close to 7000, the block reward is about 7.36FIL; the computing power reaches 6.50PiB, and there are more than 200 active miners

3) Test network operation status:

[Development progress last week]

    • Code additions and bug fixes:
      • Improve the calculation of message gas consumption, such as adding the judgment of too high setting;
      • Improvement of message selection; improvement of republishing logic; permission to modify Gas price for unlinked messages
      • Improve the stability of the storage market, for example, automatically join DHT
      • Improved payment channel management; adopts new publishing logic
      • Improve the calculation method of total circulation
      • v28 parameter support
      • Enhance some verification and improve security.
      • Spec-actors version 0.9 released
    • Design and certification update:
      • The design document continues to be improved
        • Updates on block synchronization
        • Expected consensus refinement
      • A small number of interfaces are added to the proof part; compilation and optimization are enhanced
