User Data

In today's digital age, almost everything that we do leaves a digital footprint somewhere in the virtual world.Data from simple things, from driving your car to making a phone call, can all be recorded and stored somewhere in the digital realm.

As various stakeholders have, for various reasons, tried to lay claim to the ownership of data generated through our daily actions,we have to ask the question :who owns my data?

Data Access(使用权)

Big data is a highly contentious issue as it is exceptionally difficult to not only determine the legal owner of the data is ,but who has right to access your data?

Although customers are often happy to offer their data to a business, they are often unaware(不知道) that these businesses have agreements with third parties,Often ,when agreeing to the conditions of certain websites.customers grant permission for their information to be distributed to third-party users.unfortunately, users do not have control of how their data is used and it could result in the improper use of data.

Question:

Do you think it's ethical(道德) for third parties to  have access to your personal data?

Third-parties Agreement

In  many cases, these websites, without the knowledgeof the customes, make available all customers data to third-party companies, such as advertisers and marketing agencies who are  always seeking to expanding their database, with this data, these companies can make predictions on the customers behavior, shopping style, and shopping preferences to improve their sales.

Question:

Have you been in a situation where your phone number or other data was sold to third-party companies,Can you describe what happend?

Data Ownership

Other time, companies collects customers data for their own use,Lets say that you purchased a new car,and in order for manufacturing company to ensure that the car fuctionns adequately, they have fited it with a monitoring(自动) program. This program records information about your driving habits(such as how far you drive each day,how often you fill the car up with fuel, and which routes you frequently take),In a lot of cases, without notifying the customers or paying the customers ,the manufacturer simply uses the collected data to design their future products,

Question:

Do you think it's fair for the manufacturer to use the data without letting the customer know? Why or Why not?

Who benefits from the manufacturer's action?

There is also uncertainty around data ownership on social media,For one,as soon as one publishes something on social media, the information is already made public ,Also, the user is using a social media service provider as the platform to publish their views, therefor, therefor,a lot of people argue that the user's shouldn't hold the sole ownership of what they post on social media, and social media service providers should be able to use the ideas posted on their platform.

Question:

1.should social media service provides be allowed to distribute their user's published data? Why or Why not?

2.Is there a difference between service information on social media and publishing information in a newpaper?Explain your answer.
