【爸妈不懂我的心】
Our parents grow up in a different age, and their view is hugely different from ours on various life-changing events, thus generation gap appears. Today we are going to discuss, what are the parents' ideas that make us too tired to love?
由于经历的年代不同，我们和父母之间对于各种人生大事的看法也是差了十万八千里。因此才衍生出了代沟。今天就来讨论一下，父母的哪些观念让我们累觉不爱呢？

【Part 1: 婚姻观】
I'm sure you're sick of that your parents always pressure you to get marriaged. So what are their views on marriage and how can you respond to their statement?
我相信你一定厌倦了你的父母总是催你结婚。那么他们对婚姻的看法是什么？你又该如何回应他们的说法呢?
A. “被催婚”的表达：
My parents are pressuring me to get marriaged.
pressure = n. 压力
v. 施加压力，强迫
pressure sb. to do sth. = 催促或强迫某人做某事
Many people pressured Jack Ma to donate the victims.
B. 父母催婚理由：
B-1: 直奔主题
1. 直接拿你的年龄说事：
You are not getting any younger.
你已经老大不小了！
2. 拿自己说事的同时，还不忘在你面前撒一把狗粮：
When I was your age, I was already marriaged to your mother.
当我像你这么大的时候，我已经和你妈妈结婚了。
3. 直接表达他们“想抱孙子”的心愿：
They are looking forward to having grandchildren.
3个语块: They are / looking forward to / having grandchildren.
2个语块: They are looking forward to / having grandchildren.

looking forward to doing sth. = 期待做某事
B-2: 旁敲侧击
All my friends' children are marriaged, they are doing great.
我朋友的孩子都结婚了，而且他们都过得很好。
Sb. is doing great. = 某人过得很好。
— How are you?
— I'm doing great!
B-3: 温情路线式
1. This is for your own good.
我们是为了你好。
for one's own good = 为了某人好
You are studying for your own good.
You are studying for your sake.
你是为了你自己学习的。
2. We just want somebody to take care of you.
我们只是想有人照顾你。
C: 应对父母催婚的理由：
C-1: 忙事业/还没准备好
1. I want to focus on my career. Marriage is not what I am looking for right now.
我目前想以事业为重，婚姻不是我现在想要的。
look for = search for = think about = 寻找
2. I'm not ready to get marriaged.
我还没准备好结婚。
3. I'm not thinking about marriage right now.
我还没考虑结婚这件事。
C-2: 年龄太小
I'm too young to think about marriage.
我还年轻，现在考虑结婚太早了。
too … to … = 太……以至于不能……
I'm too poor to afford a car.
C-3: 此生不将就
1. I'm waiting for Mr. Right.
我的另一半还没出现。
Mr. Right = 白马王子，理想的男人
2. I don't want to make do with an unhappy marriage.
我不想将就一段不幸福的婚姻。
make do = 将就
3. Getting marriaged is a big decision.
婚姻大事，不能儿戏。
a big decision = 重大决定
Choosing your college major is a big decision.
C-4: 希望得到父母的理解
1. She wants her parents to accept her way of life.
5个语块: She wants / her parents / to accept / her way / of life.

2. Why don't you see things from my perspective and accept my way of life?
能不能从我的角度看问题，接受我的生活方式？
Why don't you + 动词原形?
“你为什么不……?”, 可用于给他人建议
from one's perspective = 从某人的角度
From my perspective, they are doing a great job.
D. 各种拗，还是免不了以“被迫相亲”告终
set somebody up = 为某人安排相亲，牵线搭桥
Fine, set me up.
好吧，帮我介绍一下！
I can set you up with a friend of mine.
我可以帮你介绍我的一个朋友。
go on a blind date = 相亲
I went on a blind date yesterday. My mother set me up with the daughter of her friend.
我昨天去相亲了。我母亲想撮合我和她朋友的女儿在一起。
Did you go on a blind date last Saturday?

【Part 2: 生育观】
Those who are not married will be urged to get married, those who are married may be urged to have children, and parents may take a tough stance on having children, Just as you can see in dongni course:
没结婚的会被催婚，结了婚的可能要被催着生孩子了，在生孩子这件事上可能父母的态度会更加强硬，就如懂你课程里面所说的：
A. Christina's父母的观点：
Christina's parents want har to marry and have children.
4个语块: Christina's parents / want her / to marry / and have children.
3个语块: Christina's parents want her / to marry / and have children.
2个语块: Christina's parents want her / to marry and have children.
B. Christina的想法：
They don't plan to have children right away.
In fact, they may decide not to have children.
Like marriage, having children is also a big decision.
There are lots of factors to consider before having children, such as money, education and living condition.
就像结婚，生孩子也是一个重大决定。生孩子之前需要考虑很多因素，比如经济能力、教育和居住条件等等。
Some may also decide not to have children, just like Christina and start a DINK family.
DINK = Dual Income, No Kids.
双份收入，没有孩子，即丁克家族。
之所以在生孩子这件事上有这么大的差异，有一点更重要的原因在于：
父母和子女对下一代的态度也不尽相同
For our parents, they center all their life on their children, so they think it's more important to have children.
For young people, having children is no longer the ultimate goal of their life.
【Part 3：职业观】
In our parents' time, there were relatively few options when finding a job, let alone starting their own business, so the two generations may not be on the same channel as for work.
在父母那个年代，找工作时的选择相对地较少，更不用说自己创业了。所以，对于工作这事，两代人可能又不在一个频道上了。
A. 父母的观点：Job security is everything.
What parents care most about when it comes to work may not be salary or benefits, but job security.
父母在工作这件事情上最在意的可能不一定是薪资或是福利，而是工作保障。
That's why many parents want their children to take civil service exam each year and work for the government.
这就是为什么许多家长希望他们的孩子每年参加公务员考试，为政府工作。
civil service exam = 公务员考试
Central government jobs are often described as a "golden rice bowl" for their stable income and generous benefits. —— CNN
中央政府的工作因其稳定的收入和丰厚的福利经常被描述为“铁饭碗”。
golden rice bowl = 铁饭碗
B. 年轻人的观点：They may prefer more creative and challenging work.
But for young people, stability may not be the top for alternative.
但是对于年轻人来说，稳定性可能不是最好的选择。
Some people may find the regular daily commute too monotonous and prefer creative and challenging work.
对于每天定点上下班这种事，有些人可能会觉得太过单一，更愿意尝试有创意、更具挑战性的工作。
Some want to be a top banana instead of an employee.
有些人想成为老板而不是职员。
top banana = 大老板
在懂你英语中，Christina就是这样考虑的：
Christina的创业想法：
She wants to spend more time designing clothes.
She wants to set up her own business.
set up sth. = 创立、建立
The company plans to set up a new department.
As we learn from our course, setting up a business will take time and energy.
(Doing) sth. takes time = （做）某事需要花费很多时间
Learning to play the piano takes time.
“创业”的表达：
set up one's own busines
start one's own business
They don't want her to start her own business.
C. 父母反对创业的原因：
For most parents, establishing a business is not something they normally consider, because it's a huge risk.
对大多数父母来说，他们通常不会考虑创业，因为这是一个巨大的风险。
it's a huge risk. = 这件事风险太大
其实，我们之所以会和父母会有这么大的代沟，和各自生长的环境和时代有很大的关系，就如懂你课程里所说的：
Life isn't the same now as it used to be. Times are changing.
现在的生活和过去不一样了，时代在变。
So, our parents are around us every day chattering about such kinds of things,
such as getting marriaged, having children, finding a golden rice bowl…
But we should understand their poor parental love.
I hope that everyone can show much more tolerance and understanding to their parents.
所以说，父母每天都在我们身边唠叨着结婚、生孩子、找个“铁饭碗”之类的事情，但是我们要明白，可怜天下父母心，希望大家都能对自己的父母多一点宽容、多一点理解。
