随手听了个 the making of a nation-American history in VOA，打算先听懂一篇，然后慢慢听。。。
首先，nation，都是表示国家（country与state）区别在哪里呢？--转载如下，总结就是，nation 更多代表民族，country侧重祖国的大好河山，疆土，而state偏重政治方面。
讲到“国家”的英文，小伙伴们脑海里是不是蹦出了好几个单词。比如nation，the United nations就是联合国的意思；像“state”，美国的全称是“the United States of America”,即“美利坚合众国”；还有一个”country”,也是表示“国家”的意思。那同样表示“国家”，这三个单词有什么区别呢？
1、Nation
Wikipedia：A nation (from Latin: natio,"people, tribe, kin, genus, class, flock") is a large group or collective of people with common characteristics attributed to them — including language, traditions, mores (customs), habitus(habits), and ethnicity.
Nation指生活在某一土地上的族群，是某一特定人群在某种文化意义上的共同体。他们有着共同的一些特征，比如语言、传统、习俗等。
我们平时说的“民族”、“国族”、“中华民族”就是这样一种nation的概念。
E.g. His story touched the nation's heart.
他的故事感动了全体国民。
E.g. The whole nation mourned the death of their great leader.
举国人民向去世的伟大领袖表示了深深的哀悼。
2、Country
Wikipedia ：A country is a region that is identified as a distinct national entity in political geography.
Country更多的指一个国家山川大地等自然特征，强调“疆土、土地”概念。
E.g. Why are my eyes always filled with tears,because I love my country so deeply.
为什么我的眼里常含泪水，因为我对这片土地爱地深沉。（艾青语）
E.g. Don't ask what your country can do for you,ask what you can do for your country.
不要问你的国家能为你做什么，问问你能为你的国家做什么？
3、State
State (polity), anorganized community living under a single political structure and government, sovereign orconstituent
State指的是一个国家的“政府、政权”。
E.g. The state does not collect enough revenue to cover its expenditure.
该国政府入不敷出。
E.g. A state has its obligations to protect people.
政府有义务保护它的人民。
所以，总而言之，虽然同是“国家”, country是地理和国土上的概念；nation是从民族和国民层面上而言；而“state”是政治和政权上的意思。我们和“nation”, “country”之间是先天的，自然的纽带关系，我们爱国，这是一种淳朴的感情。而我们和“state”之间则是契约的关系，我们让渡一些权利，组成政府，由其提供公共服务来保护和服务我们。
