个人觉得如下三点讲得比较接地气。
其一：
A limit is something that is imposed (often externally).
A limitation is a shortcoming or incapability to achieve certain things.
其二：
A limit is a measurable quantity.
(Even in a phrase like 'limits of human endurance', the tacit assumption is that endurance can be measured)
A limitation is an attribute (or lack of one) denoting a limit to one's capabilty in achieving something.
其三：
Limit is for something you can exceed,
while limitation is for something you cannot exceed (or generally impossible to exceed).综合起来就是：
limit：“强加的，可测量的，能被超越的”限制；
limitation：“本身的，属性的，不能被超越的”限制；
