$ sudo iwlist wlan0 scanning essid <ssid>
If it could list all detail information of your ssid in terminal, then you could click the Knetworkmanager icon which is displayed in the notification area. You could see the ssid has been displayed in the list. Then double click it, the wifi will be connected.
