Firefox will remove the UA-CPU architecture information

Mozilla plans to remove information from Firefox CPU architecture of User Agent (user agent) and several support API, Firefox users to reduce the "digital fingerprint."

Web browser will automatically open to display information to the user in the application site, and the user agent displays information about the browser and browser version, operating system and CPU architecture and other data.

Fingerprint recognition script using user agent information and other information (such as language and location) to create a digital fingerprint, fingerprint accuracy will increase as the number of unique data points increases.

However, in order to focus on user privacy known for Firefox, he said in  no longer display information from the CPU architecture of the User Agent in the Firefox Nightly 69 version.

Mozilla plans to use the following way to distinguish CPU architecture:

  1. 32-bit Firefox on 32-bit operating systems.
  2. 32-bit Firefox on 64-bit operating systems.
  3. 64-bit Firefox on 64-bit operating systems.

Use Firefox 69 Firefox users will notice that the script returns the user agent will no longer distinguish between information that results in Google search "check user agent" is shown in the following screenshot:

Mozilla / 5.0(Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:69.0)Gecko / 20100101 Firefox / 69.0

This change affects the 32-bit Firefox is installed to run on 64-bit versions of Windows or Linux operating systems. Firefox 69 from the start, these versions will use the following user agent:

  • Linux: Linux x86_64 instead Linux i686 on x86_64
  • Windows: Win64 instead of WOW64

上述这些变更适用于 User Agent, APIs navigator.userAgent, navigator.platform 和 navigator.oscpu。

按照 Mozilla 的计划,他们会完全从 Firefox 用户代理和相关 API 中删除 CPU 架构信息,但在此过程中会进行大量测试,以避免引起兼容性问题。
