Huawei releases HarmonyOS NEXT Hongmeng Galaxy Edition (developer preview)

At the Hongmeng Ecosystem Qiansai Sailing Ceremony held in Shenzhen this afternoon, Huawei Managing Director and Terminal BG CEO Yu Chengdong announced: HarmonyOS NEXT Hongmeng Galaxy Edition (developer preview version) is open to developers for application . Hongmeng Galaxy Edition will achieve six ultimate native experiences, including native refinement, ease of use, smoothness, security, intelligence and interconnection.

Yu Chengdong said that the first batch of Hongmeng native application ecological partners has exceeded 200. It is expected that by the end of this year, 5,000 applications will have completed Hongmeng native development.

According to reports, HarmonyOS NEXT Hongmeng Galaxy Edition uses Huawei’s self-developed kernel, abandoning the traditional Linux kernel and AOSP Android open source project and other codes, and only supports Harmony kernel and Harmony system applications.

Yu Chengdong said at the press conference that the Hongmeng kernel surpasses the traditional kernel. The Hongmeng system is a real operating system. From the programming language to the compiler, it is fully self-developed. He also said that a real operating system needs a base and ecological support. After ten years of development and transformation, Hongmeng operating system has been widely used on devices in various scenarios. Huawei strives to achieve comprehensive development in core technologies, full-stack capabilities, infrastructure, and ecosystem to create a true operating system.

According to the release schedule, HarmonyOS NEXT Hongmeng Galaxy Edition will launch the developer beta version in Q2 and the commercial version in Q4.
