Special AVI structure recovery case of off-brand driving recorder

Recently I encountered a brand-name driving recorder that needed to recover data. It used the AVI format. However, during the scanning and recovery process, I found that the manufacturer had made "magic changes" to its AVI structure, causing the program to be unable to recognize it normally.

Fault storage: 16G SD card fat32 file system

Fault phenomenon:

After the accident, the customer tried to connect the 16G SD card to the mobile phone to read the data in the card. This resulted in an abnormality in the file system and the card could not be opened normally, prompting the card to be formatted. The customer used a general recovery software to scan but found nothing valid. data.

Failure analysis:

After analyzing the underlying data, it was found that the directory area was damaged, the FAT table was abnormal (there was only one FAT table), and many places were filled. It is estimated that it may be related to the data written after the mobile phone receives the card!

Troubleshooting:

First, use CHS Zero One Video Recovery Program Professional Edition to scan. After completion, it was found that the file size was wrong. This is abnormal. After analysis, it was found that it used an extremely long padding value, which was surprisingly long. I was not sure about the alignment of such a large amount. What is the use of using the value on the memory card? Because there is no data in the padding part, it is all 00. It is speculated that it is just for alignment. This operation is really weird!

Figure 1: Normal scan did not find any valid data

STEP1: Scan directly, select the recorder in the scan category, then open the sample file and click "Advanced Settings" below

STEP2: Click "AVI/MXF/TS Video Advanced Settings"->AVI Fill Settings->1024, click "OK" below

STEP3: Scan directly and wait for completion. You can see that the fragments are now normal.

STEP4: Check the data. You can see that the data you are searching for is normal. You can also preview it directly. After comparison, you can successfully find the data that the customer needs.
