Huawei recently issued an announcement stating that according to the company’s rotating chairman system, Hu Houkun will serve as rotating chairman from October 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. The rotating chairman is the company's top leader during his term of office and presides over the company's board of directors and the board's standing committee.

Information shows that Huawei will hold the event at Huawei Base in Bantian, Shenzhen from March 27 to 28, 2023. The meeting held the general election of the board of directors of Huawei Investment Holdings Co., Ltd. The company's board of directors has confirmed that vice chairman Xu Zhijun, Hu Houkun and Meng Wanzhou will serve as the company's rotating chairman. This is the first time Meng Wanzhou has served as Huawei’s rotating chairman.

The rotating chairman has a six-month rotation period and performs his duties in the following order:

Meng Wanzhou: April 1, 2023 to September 30, 2023;

Hu Houkun: October 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024;

Xu Zhijun: April 1, 2024 to September 30, 2024.

With Hu Houkun taking over, it also means that Meng Wanzhou, Ren Zhengfei's eldest daughter, has officially resigned from the position of rotating chairman of Huawei.

Information shows that Hu Houkun joined Huawei in 1990 and has successively served as president of the company's China Marketing Department, President of Latin America, President of Global Sales, Chairman of Huawei USA, President of Sales and Services, and President of Strategy and Marketing. In the process, he helped Huawei establish a global sales and service network and played a key role in promoting Huawei's global transformation.

Hu Houkun served as Huawei's rotating CEO from October 2011 to March 2018, responsible for the company's sustainable business development and internal management optimization. He once served as the director of Huawei's Human Resources Management Committee, responsible for company leadership and organizational development.

Hu Houkun graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology with a bachelor's degree in science, and holds an EMBA degree from China Europe International Business School.

Hu Houkun currently serves as Huawei's vice chairman, rotating chairman, member of the company's executive board of directors, and chairman of the Global Cybersecurity and User Privacy Protection Committee. With more than 30 years of experience in the ICT industry, he has played an important role in formulating Huawei's strategic direction and expanding its global market.
