VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are incompatible" error on Windows 10 hosts
VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible. VMware Workstation can run with device/credential guard disabled.
The process of troubleshooting errors:
To resolve the error, follow these steps:
If your host machine has Windows 10 20H1 build 19041.264 or higher, please upgrade/update to Workstation15.5.6 or higher.
If your host has Windows 10 1909 or earlier, disable Hyper-V on the host to resolve this issue.
To disable Hyper-V:

It is recommended to back up your data and set up a system restore point as a safety measure. After disabling Hyper-V, the following features will no longer work
Credential Protection/Device Protection
- Windows Sandbox
- Virtual machine platform
- WSL2
- Hyper-V
Verify Virtualization-Based Security (VBS) is enabled/not enabled:
- Open msinfo10/System Information on Windows 32
- On the right page, under System Summary, scroll down to Virtualization-based security and make sure the value is set to Not Enabled.
- If the value is set to Enabled, follow the steps below to disable Hyper-V.
- Turn off Hyper-V
- Go to "Turn Windows features on or off"
- Make sure Hyper-v is unchecked.
- If it is checked, uncheck it and click OK.
- Open a command prompt window as administrator
- Run "bcdedit /enum {current}"
- Note the hypervisor startup type in case you need to restore
- Run
bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off
to disable the hypervisor- After executing the command close the command prompt and restart the system.
Restart the system and open the virtual machine
