To resolve the error, follow these steps:

If your host machine has Windows 10 20H1 build 19041.264 or higher, please upgrade/update to Workstation15.5.6 or higher.
If your host has Windows 10 1909 or earlier, disable Hyper-V on the host to resolve this issue.

To disable Hyper-V:

It is recommended to back up your data and set up a system restore point as a safety measure. After disabling Hyper-V, the following features will no longer work
Credential Protection/Device Protection

  • Windows Sandbox
  • Virtual machine platform
  • WSL2
  • Hyper-V

Verify Virtualization-Based Security (VBS) is enabled/not enabled:

  1. Open msinfo10/System Information on Windows 32
  2. On the right page, under System Summary, scroll down to Virtualization-based security and make sure the value is set to Not Enabled.
  3. If the value is set to Enabled, follow the steps below to disable Hyper-V.
  1. Turn off Hyper-V
  • Go to "Turn Windows features on or off"
  • Make sure Hyper-v is unchecked.
  • If it is checked, uncheck it and click OK.
  1. Open a command prompt window as administrator
  • Run "bcdedit /enum {current}"
  • Note the hypervisor startup type in case you need to restore
  • Run bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype offto disable the hypervisor
  • After executing the command close the command prompt and restart the system.

Restart the system and open the virtual machine
