The latest development version of Wine 8.17 has been released .
Wine (Wine Is Not an Emulator) is a compatibility layer that can run Windows applications on a variety of POSIX interface-compatible operating systems (such as Linux, macOS, and BSD, etc.). It does not imitate the internal Windows logic like a virtual machine or emulator, but translates Windows API calls into dynamic POSIX calls, eliminating the memory usage of performance and other behaviors, and can cleanly integrate Windows applications into the desktop.
Main changes in the new version:
- Bundled vkd3d upgraded to version 1.9.
- Initial window management in Wayland driver.
- SoundFont support in DirectMusic.
- Various bug fixes.
