step1: Modify software source

Open the application - software and updates. In the Ubuntu software interface, click the download from drop-down menu and select the source of Alibaba Cloud.

step2: Check the installable driver versions

Open the terminal and enter

sudo ubuntu-drivers devices

step3: Install the recommended version of the driver (select the recommended line)

sudo apt install nvidia-driver-535

The screen may go black halfway through the installation, but it's not a big problem. At this time, please wait for about 2 minutes, then press the power button to shut down and restart.

step4: Check whether the installation is successful

nvidia-smi

You can see that the graphics card driver is installed successfully.

step5: Restart the computer and find that the external monitor is on.
