Tan Tieniu, secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing University and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was elected vice chairman of the China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.

On September 2, the first plenary meeting of the 11th Committee of the China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese was held in Beijing. The meeting adopted the election method of the National Committee, the list of general vote-takers and scrutineers of the National Committee, and the list of candidates for the chairman, vice-chairman, secretary-general and standing committee member of the 11th China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese Committee.

The meeting elected Wan Lijun as the new chairman of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese by secret ballot, Liu Yiliang, Qi Zhi (female), Ji Bin, Li Feng, Li Zhanyong, Li Xingyu, Lian Xiaomin, Wu Jing (female), Wu Chuanyan, Yu Guochun , Chen Jieying (female, Zhuang nationality), Gao Feng, Guo Zhanli, Guo Qimin, Liang Mou, Cheng Hong (female), Cheng Xueyuan, and Tan Tieniu are vice presidents (the above are sorted by strokes of the surname), and Chen Mai is the secretary-general.

Introduction to Tan Tieniu

Tan Tieniu, born in October 1963 in Chaling, Hunan, is an expert in pattern recognition and computer vision. He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a foreign academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, an academician of the Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries, and a researcher at the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is currently a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing University, and member of the Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.

Tan Tieniu graduated from Xi'an Jiaotong University with a bachelor's degree in 1984; in 1985, he entered the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Imperial College London, where he received a master's degree and a doctorate.

From 1989 to 1997, he worked in the Department of Computer Science of the University of Reading, UK, and served successively as postdoctoral fellow, researcher, senior researcher, lecturer, and tenured faculty; in 1996, he was selected into the Hundred Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; in 1997, he served as a researcher at the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences; in 1998 Received funding from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; served as the Director of the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences from 2000 to 2007; served as Director of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences from 2012 to 2015; was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2013; served as the Director of the Chinese Academy of Sciences from 2015 to 2016 Vice President of the Academy of Sciences and member of the Party Leadership Group; in 2016, he served as deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; in August 2022, he won the Fu Jingsun Award, the highest award in the field of international pattern recognition.

In September 2022, he was appointed as Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing University.

Tan Tieniu is mainly engaged in research on pattern recognition, image processing and computer vision.
