Install Epson driver on Ubuntu 20.04

In a Linux system, the most troublesome thing is the installation of various drivers and various software.

Due to limited information on the Internet, it took me a long time to finally successfully install the Epson driver under Ubuntu and print successfully.

The following are the specific steps.

Note: Every step in the process is a pit! ! ! Please be serious and careful! ! !

1. Download the driver from the official website

Open the official Epson driver website and search for the corresponding driver.

Pitfall 1: The URLs written in many tutorials cannot download drivers at all. Only this site can.

Enter the model number (mine was L1210) and select the operating system (Linux, of course).

Then click the search icon.

Two search results appear.

Pitfall 2: Be sure to select the file with the word "Driver" in the "Module Name"! ! ! That is the real driver! ! !

Then pop up this interface, click "Accept".

Then download the .deb package. (The extension must be .deb, select i386 (32-bit) or amd64 (64-bit) according to your system architecture

2. Install the driver

After the download is complete, switch to the directory where the deb package is located, and then execute:

sudo dpkg -i XXX.deb # XXX.deb是你刚才下载的deb包。执行此命令时可能会提示有依赖问题,不用管它
sudo apt -y -f install # 安装依赖
sudo dpkg -i XXX.deb # 再安装一遍

3. Connect the printer

Open "Settings - Printers".

On this page, first click "Unlock" in the upper right corner, enter your password, then click "Add Printer" at the top of the page (this option will only appear after you enter your password), and then select your printer to add.

Pitfall 3: If you have added a printer before, you must delete it and then add it again! !

In this way, the driver is installed. Feel free to print!

4. Frequently Asked Questions

Unable to print:

1. Please check whether the deb file you downloaded contains the word "Driver".

2. Please delete the printer and add it again.
