GitHub community

At present, its registered users have exceeded 3.5 million, and the number of hosted versions is also very large, including many well-known open source projects such as Ruby on Rails, jQuery, and Python.

GitLab issued a series of emergency announcements on January 31, 2017, saying that a system administrator in the Netherlands deleted a folder containing 310GB of product data due to operational errors, and only 4.5GB remained after canceling the deletion. Afterwards, the operation and maintenance personnel checked and found that the multiple backup measures announced and equipped by the website were not working properly or were difficult to use. GitLab livestreamed the recovery process on YouTube. The site ended up losing the last 6 hours of database data (including issues, merge requests, comments, snippets, etc., excluding the codebase).
