With the successful release of all project tasks, the Open Source Summer  2023 event has officially entered the student registration stage!

This year, Open Source Summer has worked closely with  133 outstanding open source communities and successfully launched 594 project tasks  for this event   , including 387 advanced difficulty projects and 207 basic difficulty projects. The project covers operating systems, compilers, artificial intelligence, big data, databases, cloud native, RISC-V and many other popular fields, involving more than 110 technical labels.

Whether you are a novice or a veteran, whether you want to contribute code, learn open source technology and development practices, or want to add an edge to your resume, in the summer of open source, you can find your own opportunities. In the Summer of Open Source, participating students have the opportunity to communicate and interact with many open source communities and senior developer mentors, improve their technical level and practical ability, and master more open source knowledge and skills. # How to sign up

Student registration period: April 29, 2023 to  June 3, 15:00 UTC+8

Project application submission time: April 29, 2023 to  June 4, 18:00 UTC+8

Registration requirements: This activity is open to students aged 18 and above.

Registration method: Click the [Student Login] button in the upper right corner of the official website to register and submit personal information. After the information is reviewed by the organizing committee, you can apply for the project.

Precautions:

  •  The git email  submitted by the student in the community open source repository must use the email address used by the student for registration ;
  • Students are not allowed to participate in this activity as a tutor at the same time ;
  • Please read the student guide on the official website carefully! Take it seriously and stand by your choice!

# Project application and review

Select an item:

  • View the project list, carefully read the project content and requirements, and choose the project tasks you are interested in.

Establish communication with mentors:

  • In the project description on the official website, there is the contact email address of the designated tutor of the project. Students can communicate with the tutor through email . Email communication is the basic way to participate in community activities;
  • Students are requested to pay attention to the basic etiquette of communicating with the tutor. The tutor only provides guidance and suggestions within his ability, and the application, design and development of the project itself must be completed by the students themselves;
  • This stage is not only a period to understand the details of the project, but also a period to understand how the community operates and become familiar with community etiquette.

Prepare project application materials :

  • Check out the [Project Application Template ] in the student guide , and prepare relevant materials as required.

Submit a project application :

  • Click the [Add to Candidate] button on the project homepage, enter the system personal center [My Project], click the [View] button, and upload your resume and project application;
  • Prioritize all project applications, if selected by multiple projects at the same time, according to the order of submitted projects, the project with higher priority will be selected first;
  • Click the [Sort and Submit] button to submit all project applications.

Number of applications:

  • A student can submit applications for a maximum of 3 projects, but can only be selected to undertake a maximum of 1 project in the end ;
  • Each project is undertaken by a maximum of  1 student  .

Selection criteria:

  • This year’s event adds a community review process in the review stage of student project applications. Only students who pass the review of the tutor, the community, and the organizing committee can be identified as selected students for the project;
  • The quality of the project application is the most important criterion for evaluating whether a student's application is passed.

Closing standard:

  • The projects undertaken by students need to be submitted to the open source community warehouse where the project is located in the form of PR/MR and merged.

# About Summer of Open Source

"Summer of Open Source (OSPP)" is a series of summer activities under the guidance of the "Open Source Software Supply Chain Lighting Project" of the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Encourage students to actively participate in the development and maintenance of open source software, cultivate and discover more outstanding developers, promote the vigorous development of excellent open source software communities, and help the construction of open source software supply chains.

The event unites major open source communities to provide projects for the development and maintenance of important open source software, and open registration to college students around the world. Students can independently choose the projects they are interested in to apply for, and after being selected, they will develop under the guidance of senior project developers (community mentors). According to the degree of difficulty and completion of the project, those who complete the project will receive the Open Source Summer activity bonus and a project completion certificate.

Open Source Summer is in its fourth year.
