Domestic chip manufacturers make breakthroughs in innovation and help domestic substitution continue to accelerate

Recently, the China Business Industry Research Institute released the latest research report showing that from January to May this year, China imported 186.5 billion integrated circuits, a year-on-year decrease of 19.6%. Compared with the same period last year, it imported 45.5 billion fewer integrated circuits, with an average daily import reduction of 3 billion. At the same time, companies such as Intel, AMD, Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix suffered a total loss of more than 70 billion in the first quarter.

It can be seen that with the release of the US chip ban, foreign chip manufacturers are suffering from the backlash of the ban. And this also indicates that the dependence of domestic chip demand on foreign countries is decreasing, and behind this is that domestic chip manufacturers are constantly innovating and breaking through under great external pressure to accelerate the achievement of domestic substitution, and this speed may far exceed ours. expected.

Since the promulgation of the U.S. Chip Act, the domestic chip industry has continued to make breakthroughs under heavy pressure. The country, enterprises, and chip manufacturers have gathered together to push the industry forward. Now the domestic chip industry has formed a situation where the six major manufacturers are starting to advance side by side. Among them, Loongson, Shenwei, Haiguang, and Zhaoxin have all made good progress.

Loongson and Shenwei have conducted self-research on the basis of MIPS and ALPHA architectures respectively, and have developed their own instruction sets, which have good advantages in autonomy and iteration prospects. Moreover, the products of the two manufacturers are mainly used in high-secret and high-security industries, and they have participated in many national-level projects and made outstanding contributions.

Haiguang and Zhaoxin conduct research and development based on the x86 architecture. As the mainstream architecture in the field of PC and server, x86 occupies 90% of the market share. Moreover, the x86 architecture complies with the cross-licensing agreement between Intel and AMD, and the independent iteration of x86 manufacturers is also more flexible, which brings broad market prospects for Haiguang and Zhaoxin. Haiguang has not only achieved rapid growth in financial reports recently, but also announced that it has completed the digestion and absorption of x86, and its next-generation products are also steadily advancing. And Zhaoxin has also made many breakthroughs in technology. Recently, it has also established a joint-stock company and promoted its listing. The future prospects are promising.

Compared with these four companies, the development of Huawei Kunpeng and Feiteng is relatively hindered. These two manufacturers are based on ARM technology for chip research and development, but affected by the ban on sales by ARM, the two have missed the ARMv9 version. Moreover, the two are also limited by ARM's strict authorization rules, losing the right and space for independent iteration. At present, although Huawei Kunpeng and Feiteng are actively stabilizing the market and rebuilding their own advantages, there is also news in the industry that ARM is teaming up with Intel to prepare for the end of the core manufacturing. If the news comes true, the difficulty of protecting their own markets will undoubtedly increase exponentially. .

On the whole, although domestic chip manufacturers have withstood international pressure, they have achieved satisfactory results. However, the road ahead still requires continuous efforts. I believe that with the continuous self-research and iteration capabilities that we have mastered, the development of domestic alternatives will be further accelerated.
