AI drives the outbreak of the chip industry, and domestic manufacturers are about to embark on the fast lane

With the outbreak of a new wave of artificial intelligence, AI servers have brought new incremental demand to the chip industry that has been down for nearly two years, which is expected to drive the chip industry to usher in explosive growth.

Looking back at China, in recent years, the Chinese chip industry has formed six major manufacturers through the introduction of foreign advanced architecture technologies, including: x86 camp-Haiguang, Zhaoxin, ARM camp-Huawei, Phytium, and other architecture camps-Shenwei and Loongson. Facing the great market situation, I believe that various manufacturers are also gearing up, so how will they perform?

x86 camp - Haiguang, Zhaoxin

As the current global mainstream technology route, the x86 architecture occupies more than 90% of the global market share. Relying on their huge market advantages, Haiguang and Zhaoxin have quickly established their own product advantages.

With the X86 architecture permanent authorization, Haiguang has completed the assimilation of core technologies and established a fully independent iterative product system. In addition, Haiguang has added security instructions to the X86 architecture to further strengthen the security of the product in response to the security issues in the chip field.

Similarly, Zhaoxin's product performance has continued to improve in recent years. With the smooth progress of the company's listing, it will also usher in leapfrog development in the future.

ARM camp - Huawei, Phytium

The ARM architecture was once considered to be the optimal solution for the mobile terminal market. With the gradual improvement and enrichment of the ARM architecture's own ecology, it also occupies a certain share in the global server chip market.

Among domestic manufacturers, Huawei Kunpeng and Phytium have obtained permanent authorization of ARM V8. Relying on the customizable features of ARM, Huawei Kunpeng has rapidly improved the computing power and performance of its products, while Phytium has built its own competitiveness around security, and both have achieved considerable results.

It is a pity that in the face of the influence of the United States, it is difficult for domestic manufacturers to obtain the latest technology authorization such as the new generation of ARM V9. Presumably, if Huawei Kunpeng and Feiteng want to fall behind in the good situation, they need to open up new starting points as soon as possible and re-establish their own advantages.

Other architecture camps - Shenwei, Godson

Shenwei and Loongson introduced the MIPS and Alpha architectures respectively. On the basis of digestion and absorption, the two developed the LoongArch architecture and the SW-64 instruction set respectively. After years of independent iterations, they have been applied to many industries.

Among them, the IP modules of LoongArch developed by Loongson are all independently designed, and equipped with security mechanisms, which greatly improve the security performance of the chip. In May of this year, Godson also launched the new product 3D5000, which further meets the performance requirements of the data center. Although Shenwei has not yet proposed a commercialization plan, it focuses on the development route of high-secret industries such as the military and party and government. Nowadays, with the increasing maturity of its own technology, it has been successfully applied to domestic supercomputers and has made great contributions to related fields.

It can be seen that in the face of the excellent situation of the chip industry in the future, Chinese chip manufacturers still have a long way to go, and they will go all out for the moment when Chinese chips will win the world.
