1. TIOBE Statistics (July 2023)
The TIOBE Index Programming Community Index is an indicator of programming language popularity. Ratings are based on the number of skilled engineers, courses and third-party vendors worldwide. Popular search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo!, Wikipedia, Amazon, YouTube, and Baidu are used to calculate ratings.
July headline: C++ is about to overtake C
A few months ago, the programming language C++ claimed to be number 3 in the TIOBE index (at the expense of Java).
But C++ isn't done with its rise.
C seems to be its next victim.
Currently, the gap between the two is only 0.76%.
Beyond that, there are some other interesting moves this month. JavaScript reached position #6, an all-time high.
Matlab, Scratch and Rust also matched their all-time highs at #10, #12 and #17 respectively.
Elsewhere in the TIOBE index, we see COBOL re-entering the top 20 after a long time, while Julia is seriously approaching it
