Who should deliver the last mile of food delivery?

Recently, the Minhang Campus of Shanghai Jiaotong University has become a hot search on Zhihu because it will ban takeaway riders from entering the campus and instead set up a takeaway transfer station, which will be delivered by the school's holding company for a fee.

At present, the number of page views has exceeded 5 million.

The students said that the policy was issued without consulting the students at all. Who will defend the procedural justice of the school policy? Once again, the conflict between the logistics management department and the students was presented to the public.

Ban takeaway riders from entering school

Changing to paid distribution by enterprises has sparked heated discussions

According to Zhihu’s hot search description, a notification picture was circulated on the Internet. The picture shows that starting from September 1st, the Minhang Campus of Shanghai Jiaotong University will prohibit all takeaway workers from entering the campus . The takeaway delivery service will be changed to set up a takeaway transfer station in the school, and the campus takeaway delivery team will carry out the final delivery on campus.

At the same time, a WeChat payment code was placed at the transfer station, and each order was planned to collect 2.5 yuan from the delivery master , and no receipt or invoice was provided to the payer.

As soon as the policy came out, the students quarreled on Zhihu hot searches.

The objections are mainly in the following aspects:

1. The delivery fee for a takeaway delivered by a delivery person is only 4-5 yuan. When it is only a few hundred meters away from the school, it will be delivered by the campus, but it is 2.5 yuan at a time. Is this reasonable?

Although the school guarantees that the cost of food delivery for students will not increase, it is unknown whether the cost will be added to the food delivery fee in some form because the wool comes from the sheep.

According to Guangming.com, many riders said that the implementation of the new measures will affect their willingness to accept orders. "Send three or forty orders a day, which is equivalent to a loss of 100 yuan." Consider transferring it to someone else."

2. If there is a problem with the food delivery, who will be responsible?

Because of the takeaway transfer station, a complete takeaway road will be divided into two sections for delivery, so who will be responsible if there is a problem with the takeaway? Some people said in the comment area that the school means that the original platform is still responsible for the delivery problem, but is this reasonable? Will the food delivery platform be irresponsible because it is not clear which part of the delivery has a problem?

3. Why didn't the school ask the students for their opinions before making a decision, and why did they choose this company for food delivery? Specific tender details were not released.

To sum up, this policy looks more like an absurd "one-word statement". When the school's logistics department faces life issues that are closely related to students, it does not consider students at all.

Some people also said on Zhihu that if the documents are issued in this way, the students will feel like air.

Contradictions between the logistics department and the students

This takeaway incident is actually just a microcosm of contradictions.

In addition to Shanghai Jiaotong University, many schools first ignore the feelings of students in the face of basic necessities of life that are closely related to students' lives.

At the beginning of this year, Yanbian University's on-campus bathhouse caused heated discussions due to the issue of "exorbitant bathing fees".

According to a Qihuan video report, some students from Yanbian University in Jilin complained that the price of bathing in school was too high, 50 times 850 yuan, the average price was 17 yuan, and the card was still used within half a year.

Students of the school said in an interview with the media that the school’s bathrooms are divided into single rooms and public ones. The price of a single bathroom is too expensive, and taking a bath is more expensive than eating a meal in a restaurant.

In this regard, the staff of Yanbian University's Mutian Bathing told the Jimu News reporter that the high fees reported online are for single bathrooms, which are separated from wet and dry, one person, one room, and have complete facilities. Single-room bathing belongs to "high-level personal needs." In addition, the school also has public bathrooms, which cost 8 yuan for a wash, and students can choose from two types of bathrooms.

Yanbian University stated that the bathing center is operated by imported merchants, and the merchants set the price in consideration of operating costs.

Many people said, does this differentiated choice allow students to classify themselves?

Moreover, although the organization uses the resources of the school to operate, the resources in the school itself serve the students and cannot be confused with ordinary shops.

When faced with these problems, the logistics departments of colleges and universities say that they are managed by the merchants and that the fees are charged according to the market price, which is obviously not convincing to the public.

This is also the reason why many students oppose the direct prohibition of food delivery personnel from entering the school and change it to a food delivery transfer station. Because the school has its own "monopoly" attribute, the profit and follow-up operations of the food delivery transfer station are also monopolistic to some extent. In the early stage, the opinions of the students were not respected at all. If the transfer station changes its operation mode later, who will guarantee the rights and demands of the students?

school urgent problem solving

but worth pondering

As public opinion fermented on the Internet, on August 14, the Security Office of Shanghai Jiaotong University released another relevant arrangement on the management of food delivery on the Minhang campus.

The picture shows that according to the opinion, the original model will continue to be maintained and delivered by takeaway staff.

Many students said that it seems that the appeal of "making trouble" is still useful, and the school's solution this time can be regarded as a phased victory for everyone.

But what is missing behind this solution is to consider the procedural justice of the students before things happen.

It is because of public opinion that conflicts can be resolved. Perhaps this is a point that schools should reflect on.
