An Inside Look at the Bear Necessities Hackathon Winners

Veteran builders in the ecosystem know that Moonbeam is a big fan of hackathons, both online and on-site. However, few hackathons have reached the scale and appeal of the Bear Necessities hackathon hosted by Moonbeam and AWS . A total of 755 people participated in this hackathon, and a total of 62 entries were submitted. 22 of these projects will share the $50,000 in prize money . Plus, every team that submits a project is eligible for free AWS Credits .

Our success would not have been possible without the strong support of our sponsors. Generous support from the Moonbeam Foundation, AWS , Chainlink, StellaSwap, Biconomy, and SubQuery made the Bear Necessities Hackathon a reality. Each sponsor provides generous rewards ( 100% directly awarded to participating teams ) and mentorship, while technical team members also help participating teams in Office Hour, Workshop, and even late-night Discord and Telegram support chat groups. Also, a special thanks to the HackerEarth team for their excellent organization and hackathon management.

Are you interested in building a project on Moonbeam? We want to be able to help you on your development journey through our diverse grant program , incubator, and technical support in our developer Discord . While we don't have enough space to discuss and analyze each project in this blog in detail, we will share some relevant details about the winning projects. Many of the dApps mentioned below have been launched on Moonbase Alpha. If you are interested, please feel free to check them out or try them out!

GTSave

One of the Hackathon Winners: A Detailed Teardown of the GT Save Project

GTSave is a powerful cross-chain savings agreement, but it is different from the classic savings agreement. Built on Moonbase Alpha, users can deposit funds from many supported chains through Axelar and earn rewards for deposits in Moonwell. GTSave uses API3's QRNG (Quantum Random Number Generator, Quantum Random Number Generator) to randomly select users in the general lottery. GTSave won the Moonbeam Foundation Award and the StellaSwap Award.

Synthmos

Exploring the Synthomos project: A groundbreaking solution emerges from a hackathon

Synthmos is a lossless prediction market on Moonbase Alpha. The protocol locally stakes funds by staking precompiled to generate and distribute rewards to winning positions in prediction markets. Synthmos uses the Chainlink price feed service and includes TradingView integration, which means it has strong security properties and an easy-to-use UI.

Koingaroo

Koingaroo provides users with cross-chain self-custodial investment within 60 seconds, adopts multiple strategies such as native GLMR and DOT pledge, and can ensure that all processes are completed within 60 seconds. Koingaroo won the Moonbeam Foundation Precompile Award and the StellaSwap Award. Koingaroo uses 3 different Moonbeam precompiles, precompiled for batch, proxy and staking, all of which are designed to fulfill its mission of making cross-chain DeFi investments faster and easier. In addition, Koingaroo was selected to give a speech at Polkadot Decoded 2023.

MoonDAO

Introduction to the MoonDAO project by hackathon winners

MoonDAO is an innovative DAO-as-a-service platform that aims to provide trust to the community by leveraging the Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) framework. MoonDAO is built on Moonbeam and follows the principles of transparency, collaboration and fairness. MoonDAO won three awards, from Chainlink, StellaSwap, and Biconomy. They continue to develop and grow the platform every day.

SilverMoon

SilverMoon is a decentralized bond exchange. Silvermoon allows Moonbeam collectors to issue bonds using the ERC-3475 abstract storage bond standard to fund their collection operations. While still in development, the project has great potential to empower individual community gatherers and further decentralize Moonbeam and Moonriver gatherers.

XChain Orders

XChain Orders provides a novel way to manage cross-chain DeFi activities. XChain Orders features four new order types designed to automate trading opportunity and risk management, allowing users to pre-plan when to maximize profits and minimize losses, with the added ability to delete any active work orders. The project also includes a server to monitor and locate smart contracts in Moonbeam and Fantom, and uses Axelar to handle cross-chain communication.

NiftyQuery

NiftyQuery is an advanced ERC721 NFT standard indexer that supports Moonbeam, Moonriver, Astar and Shiden. To achieve this functionality, NiftyQuery utilizes the powerful SubQuery multi-chain indexing solution. The main goal of this indexer is to provide users with a unified and simplified experience by exposing a single, all-encompassing GraphQL API to facilitate queries across these different blockchains.
