Build the MES management system of the foundry industry based on the free and open source Odoo platform

Odoo is the world's No. 1 free and open source enterprise management software platform. After 20 years, the platform has built the world's largest enterprise software application market. There are tens of thousands of plug-ins in the application market. The functions cover all aspects of enterprise informatization, including CRM , ERP, MES, WMS, HRMS, OA, CMS, etc.

 

Today I will introduce MES, a workshop execution management system for the foundry industry based on the free and open source Odoo platform. The case of this article is taken from an impeller manufacturer of aircraft and ship engines in Tianjin. The MES system in this case is built by open source intelligence based on Odoo's free functional plug-ins, basically no secondary development is required, and no commercial software and functional modules need to be purchased.

 

The production of the impeller adopts the "investment casting" process, which was also called the "lost wax process" in ancient China. The process steps are:

  1. Wax-type workshop to make wax-type;
  2. Shell making workshop;
  3. The pouring workshop pours molten iron into the shell;
  4. Clean up the workshop to break the shell;
  5. The precision workshop grinds the castings to form the final product;

In Odoo's manufacturing functional modules, there are complete material number management, BoM management, process management, and process management. The five processes of the "investment casting" method correspond to five processes in Odoo:

  • The first process: Wax-type workshop, low-molecular wax to make impeller wax-type;
  • The second process: the shell workshop, making the shell: soak in the wax type isolation slurry, wrap the isolation layer, then soak the mortar, dry at high temperature, the mortar hardens into a shell, and the wax type in the mortar melts to form a hollow impeller model ;
  • The third process: pouring workshop, pouring molten iron in the shell;
  • The fourth process: clean up the workshop, smash the shell of pouring molten iron to get the rough impeller, and the rough impeller is processed by heat treatment;
  • The fifth process: Seiko workshop, the rough impeller is then polished and other processes to make the finished impeller;

The actual production operation steps in the workshop are as follows:

  1. The planning office places an impeller production order,
  2. Odoo system automatically generates five sub-production orders according to the above process settings: wax-up production order, shell production order, pouring production order, cleaning production order, and finishing production order
  3. The planning department prints the production orders of each workshop generated by the system, as shown in the figure below is the production order for wax-type production. The planning department will hand over the production order to the person in charge of the workshop
  4. The person in charge of the workshop sends the order to the workshop workers. The workshop workers complete the production according to the order.
  5. Workers in the workshop scan the production form with their mobile phones, fill in the completed quantity and the scrapped quantity on the mobile phone, and submit the work report.
  6. The planning department counts the production progress of the order and the piece-rate wages of the workers based on the data of the worker's mobile phone scanning code.
